Buying a flat
« on: 13 January 2010, 04:32:15 pm »
Hey im after some advice and opinions really about working from a flat that you own. At the moment i rent and i work from home but this year i want to buy somewhere but im in two minds about whether to buy a place to rent out or to buy a home. Obviously i would prefer to buy a home but im worried about what i would do if i had a problem e.g neighbours found out or had a dangerous client harrasing me. In a rented flat you can give the landlord a months notice and dissappear but not so if its your place. Ive been discussing this with my clients and they are all of differing opinions so i just wondered what you lovely ladies and gents think. Many thanks xx

I would either buy a home as family home and rent a place to work from, but obviously that means double outgoings

or if I decided to work from home choose a place with that in mind, so use the criteria I would for a working flat/house such as security entry system, discrete entrance, fairly anonymous with regards to neighbours, easy to get to with ample parking if no city centre location, etc.

It depends how long term you're going to live there.

Personally, the type of house I want to live in isn't very compatible with escorting.

Also remember that it being discreet is more important than ever, because you can't just move out with a months notice!

and I think if you own the house anyone can find out your details for a small fee.

I own my place and like Cassie said, I did choose it to some degree because it is perfect to work from in terms of layout, parking, neighbourhood and so on but it is also huge, in a very nice part of town and was unbelievably cheap although it needed (and still needs) a lot of work. I'm under no illusions about how lucky I was to have found the place, and I know other ladies who have really struggled to find suitable property for both working and living in.

I can see why ladies prefer to rent or keep a separate place but I have had no problems at all despite some punters' better efforts, and there are advantages too. You can't be chucked out for starters, although stroppy neighbours could make it very hard to work in the event that they found out and I would probably have to find a work flat or hotel as a temporary base in the event of this, at least they got bored. I don't have a high volume of clients at home anyway though, so I don't worry too much. Plus it's a good future investment, if you're a bit old-fashioned like me, but then I bought my first place at 20 and thus have never been much of a renter so I'm probably biased :).
