Late clients problems
« on: 24 March 2015, 02:25:46 pm »
Working afternoon only today and I schedule 3 half hour appointments - what I call "quick fire" because I have 30 mins in between which means time for change bedding, shower, tidy and dress and meet client. So no time to waste.

First client 2pm booked, says he will be a few mins late and I say okay thinking he means 5 mins max. 12 mins past I text to say sorry have to cancel your booking.
He replies "nearly there will be 5 mins"
Me "no can do, it's nearly quarter past and I can't be late for my next appointments"
He replies "am just parking x" at 15 mins past

Hello didn't he hear I said not to come?
Is it my fault for not allowing more time between appointments or is 15 mins late for half hour booking unreasonable?
Bear in mind I allow 45 mins in my schedule for each 30 mins appointment for meeting client and going to flat, shower time and their booked time.
I would rather cancel whole appointment than say you can stay for remaining 15 mins but still have to pay full fee as I don't want confrontations.

I think 15 min late for a 30 min booking is really late!

It may happen especially if they drive (parking). When they drive I always warn them it may be tough to find parking space so they should organise their time accordingly. When they come by transports I tell them how far from the station so that they can get here on time sharp.

I had 2 clients arrive really late (15 and 20 minutes). I just canceled both and I felt awful about it but there was no way I could see them without compromising the rest of my day.

15 minutes late is far too much for a half hour booking. I would have cancelled also because the knock on effect just makes the later bookings be rushed and I don't think that's fair to the clients. If it had been a longer booking then I might have let it pass but even then it let's them think they can turn up when they want.Much better to cancel and get them to turn up on time in future, otherwise they get no fun  ;)

If you run a tight ship you have to be brutal with late comers and when they text saying they're running late reply with something like hope to see you soon but if youre not here by 210 I'm afraid we'll have to reschedule x

Do you change the bed after every client? You could save a bit of time putting a throw on and changing top 2 pillow cases  8)

I leave half hour too myself.

If I've got time and not another booked in I will see them, if not I cancel.

I've had guys turn up 45 mins to an hour late before with a text after already being 30 mins late saying 'Just getting in the car', erm no you're not mate!

They should plan for traffic etc especially at busy times.

This is just a problem that comes with the job unfortunately as people can't predict bad traffic or delayed/cancelled trains etc which is why I ALWAYS leave at least an hour inbetween bookings to allow for lateness and then to get myself showered and ready for the next.

Just think how many girls are late for clients though, I can be a fashionable 5 mins late quite often but I have clients tell me all the time that girls keep them waiting half an hour etc so what I'm saying is.....lateness tends to work both ways.

I don't mind if a client is running late as long as they let you know before the appointment time how late they are going to be, that way you can roughly work out if you can still see them or not.

What I don't like is when you don't hear a word and then 40 minutes after they were due 'thats me here now'.

I leave 30 minutes in between which means I can just about pull it off if they're 15 minutes late, but they will be slightly rushed. I may, for example, suggest we shower together 5 mins before the thirty minutes is up and while they're dressing, I'm also dressing and fixing my hair and makeup.

But I have had a couple of guys do exactly what yours did - ignore my messages saying "I'm sorry, but it's now too late." In which case they just get told when they arrive that I wasn't kidding.

Same here. 30 min in between. But a guy arriving 15 min late, then him showering etc plus me getting myself and the room ready (open the window etc). I felt awful once for that guy who said he was literally downstairs and I said "sorry, too late". He learnt his lesson and booked again. Came on time:).

With the experience of these annoying clients I now put in the text with my address "if your running late or need to cancel, please drop me a quick text, otherwise I look forward to seeing you at 1pm" or whatever time. Then there is no excuse for them not to contact me, if they are late without letting me know, they simply get blocked for future bookings, I am punctual for our appointments, I have no tolerance for those who don't give me the respect and courtesy of a quick text to inform me they are running late. I leave big gaps in between bookings anyway, I'm ready 10/15 mins early 95% of the time, force of habbit, and useful for the early arrivers  ;D xox

I also leave 15 minutes between clients, it always works fine.
I put my coat on for coffee and cake
if a client is not on the dot.

I don't call them to check what they're up to.
As I consider them cancelled.

I had this last week, they don't realize it has a knock on effect- especially when they're late and the next guy is early, giving you 10 minutes to run around like a crazy woman!
They tried to bury us.
They didn't know we were seeds.

Its about manners.I had a duo today and 5 mins after the guy should have been here I had to ring to ask if he was lost.He told me he was parking up and finally arrived 20 mins late.Perfectly nice guy but not even a sorry or any sort of acknowledgement that he was late and he still expected his full hour.It did not occur to him that either of us may have someone else to see after the time he should have left.I try and leave 15 to 30 mins between clients.Days can either really busy or really quiet so I can't afford to leave an hour in between if I have guys wanting to make appointments.

If you've booked a guy in for an hour and he's 15 minutes late, assuming you can't overrun as you've got another booking later, do you still charge him for the hour?
