Isn't it illegal for someone else's private CCTV to be viewing/monitoring someone else's property, or communal areas?

I was thinking the same. OP don’t let them to bully you. Tell them to fuck off and move out. Your property is officially unworkable and by staying at that place you’re loosing out on money.

Personally I would tell my landlord (agent) to get lost. Who she think she is?

In England you are not supposed to have a camera on someone else's front door or window and if you do and complain it has to be moved but not sure what the rules are where she is as she not in UK.

I think if she tried to evict you for having visitors and using somebody else’s cctv you will have grounds to defend yourself in Court. If she does a Section 21 that’s a bit more difficult but she would have to do that correctly.

The neighbour pointing the CCTV to your door is breaking the law. I suggest you tell neighbour and landlady that you are taking action.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

Yes, this is correct. I can take this up to the tribunal and lodge a complaint. I have the right to quiet enjoyment of the property I am paying for and I should not be watched, I am not doing anything illegal. I did speak to fair trading and they also confirmed it. I just don't know if it's worth me fighting for. The energy here is just bad and it will have a massive negative effect on my mental health. I have enough things depressing me already; the occasional bad clients/timewasters, narcissistic family, college assignments etc. Not sure I can willingly take on more stress.

The CCTV isn't necessarily pointed at my door. The cameras have a panoramic view. It's a bit difficult to explain the set up. But my door is in a dead-end of the street/cul-de-sac, next to the garage of the property with cameras.  The landlady kept repeating that the area is "exclusive" and neighbours have complained that I am bringing "unusual looking people around, people who shouldn't be here".  I have had a lot of scruffy-looking men book me here, but they were polite to me, paid my rate and did not bother any neighbours. If I could make them all turn up in suits, I would.

She also said that suggestions have been made about what is taking place in the apartment and kept pressuring me to "come clean". I didn't admit to anything. She said "neighbours are not stupid and they know things". Plus in all her years of renting the property out she has never had a complaint this serious, they really don't want me here.

I also changed the setup of the place when I moved in; I put my bed in the open plan living area. She asked about this as she was leaving and I told her that it's because the bigger room has better air circulation since it's open. I sweat a lot at night and the weather is so hot here.  Then she replied "that's a good reason actually, plus I am sure it makes things easier when you bring clients over, you can lead them straight from the entrance to the bed" in a very condescending tone.

RE; section 21- I am in Australia and they don't have that here.

God your neighbours sound like right snobs! I think you should cut your losses and move on, it’s not worth it and all the other issues on top of this aren’t good.

Some folks need a frigging life and fast.

OP; does the law in your country allow a landlord to kick you out because you have visitors? (or worst case scenario; being an escort -which both neighbours and landlady have no proof of-)? Have you checked that? ultimately your landlord is going to have to operate under whatever law your country operates under so she can moan as much as she wants but it all depends on the laws. A friendly visit to a real state lawyer to tell him the problem and seek advice (so that you know your rights and where you stand) would be a good idea. I had a friend who did that and it saved her a lot of problems. Your landlady might not renew you the lease but at least you'll be able to stay till the end of it and have enough time to look for a more suitable location with a better vibe.

No Ana30, like I said I called "fair trading", the tenant rights advice line and they gave me good advice. My lease expires in July. She can't kick me out and by reviewing this CCTV and analysing the quality of people visiting me, she is breaching my right to quiet enjoyment. I can fight her at triburnal and definitely win as escorting is legal but like I said it's not worth all the drama and stress. Her assistant has been lurking outside my door for the past hour, making calls and talking loudly and now he has gone into the neighbour's home. I think they are viewing the CCTV now. I hope she serves me the termination notice cause I will go without a fuss, I am tired. The only problem is that I have no references, I had to pay 6months in advance when I moved in here cause I was new to Australia, I don't have that kind of money saved up to pay for a new place as I have been investing in other things. Hard times  :'(

I would stay as long as you can and save your six months money up and give her nothing.

What she said. You're letting the landlady and those scummy neighbours win when she doesn't have a leg to stand on. Let her drain her resources, have that assistant (who should be doing all that admin work in the office instead of playing detective) lurk as much as he wants. In the meanwhile go to a lawyer and have him sent her a letter letting her know she's breaking the law and if she doesn't cease you will be taking her to court (this letter costs nothing). Fight the fight. Six months rent of your hard earned is a lot of money . I would do as ladymansion above stated.

If it were me, I'd just keep my head down, look for somewhere new, and move out in July when the lease expires. It seems pretty obvious she knows you're whoring from the apartment, which I assume is a breach of your rental agreement. I don't see the point of any legal aggro.

She may suspect, but she has no proof whatsoever. Landlady might need to find her whoring profile with her address and send a shopper to proof it. Good luck with that. Plus, if her local laws say being an independent escort is perfectly legal then OP has the law on her side. However... if all the scummy neighbours gang up and sign some letter saying she's being a nuissance and causing some sort of problems to the neighbours it might breach her tennency agreement , but all of this is going to take time and admin work. If I were OP I would fight this to the  end and ultimately if the landlady gets too anoying OP should inform her that she intends to leave once her lease is over, not before. In order for the landlady to kick her out before end of lease she's going to have to do a lot of detective and admin work (which i don't think it's something she's looking forward to).

If she serves you a termination notice will you be refunded the rest of the rent you have paid in advance? It might be worth (via a solicitor) suggesting that, although you've done no wrong, you will go amicably if she gives you your money back.
