Landlord just called
« on: 16 January 2020, 06:36:32 am »
Hi guys, a few months ago I posted this thread https://saafe.info/main/questions-and-answers/suspicious-busy-body-neighbour/

Well my worst fears have come true. Landlord just called me asking some questions. She received a complaint (most likely for the busy body neighbour in the first thread linked above). The thing is, these neighbours don't even live in the same building as me, I have my own flat with its own entrance and no communal areas. They said to the landlord that because it's an estate, they are sensitive to high traffic in the area and that it's protected (WTF  ::) ). I see max 2 people a day and don't make noise, which I explained to the landlord (the noise bit).

She basically asked me on the phone if I have been entertaining a lot of people in the apartment. To which I replied "I have friends from college who do visit me from time to time".  She then asked "are they Aussie guys?" and I just said "my college is international and they're from everywhere". She then said "I understand that you're young and need to have fun." She seemed quite understanding on the phone but you never know.

I don't know what to do now. I didn't feel welcome from the moment I moved in by these neighbours, escorting aside, I have often felt that they are racist and didn't want me in their affluent white suburb and now they have found the perfect way to oust me.

My landlord's closing words were "I will pop over next week so we can chat". I said ok. I suspect she wants to have a snoop around to check the apartment's condition. I have nothing to hide there as the apartment is in top notch condition. I have been in this apartment for 6 months now and always paid my rent on time, even paid the 6months in advance when I moved in.

What now ladies? I am freaking out.

Not sure how to help with the issues with the neighbours but regarding visitors if your landlord pushes further, they are friends, family, family friends and as your a student it wouldn't be amiss for you to have a tutor or two.

But really everyone is allowed to have visitors to their home and as long as your not causing a disturbance it is no ones business

I would just act 'normal', carry on as normal, be 'normal'. That doesn't mean it will be easy, I'd be pretty much up the wall with worry - but I do tend to go to a worst case scenario position.

Another point here, do dress down, no makeup and hair a mess. Books and course work on the table in view etc. Set the scene for what you will tell the landlord.

They are not permitted to snoop in wardrobes or drawers etc but ensure nothing whatsoever is on view to arouse suspicion. Finally but probably foremost!! If your online photos could possibly identify you even without a face shown then remove them. Neighbours have browsers too and may be searching for you, if they have not already.

I realise this may have been posted in your original but as you have started a new thread it can do no harm to remind you?

Stick to the student story, she seems to have bought it anyway. Tell her you have a lot of friends and because you're in uni you have a lot of teamwork to do at home with other students etc... Maybe the stupid old man has told your landlady you're a drug dealer (or god knows!), so I would have your apartment completely immaculate when she comes by. Once in there tell your landlady about this old guy always always hanging in your porch, stalking you almost obsessively. Because you're a black student he's decided to gang up on you ,let her know you believe this is a blatant case of racism, but be very polite about it. Once you throw in the "race card" it's going to be very politically incorrect to kick you out. Stick to your guns, keep a very low profile and avoid this silly old man. You have no reason to panic, sounds like the landlady is on your side.

Some people’s neighbours seriously need to get a life.

I think it’s almost harassment when neighbours complain about people.

Brilliant idea mentioning the racist comment! Gold and it will probably keep you your home!

All the best with chat with landlord. One thing not sure if mentioned if you have taken images for your escorting adverts while in that flat. Remove them and do another one when in a hotel or changing room in a clothing shop. That way nothing will link to you that you are using place for business. x

About the racism thing, do I email her now or just wait to tell her when she shows up in person? I don't think I am a very good communicator in person tbh

The chances are she probably already knows what you are doing, usually if someone complains to someone and notice the men coming in and all different types of men and ages they usually from my experience do there research looking for anyone in escort ads that could be you.

Most neighbours when they suspect what you do will not like it going on in there street. I do not think you should play the race card unless you know it is actual racism. I would say it is more anti whoring in this case.

As you do not have a string of men coming in i would just carry on til you get told to leave. I would though only give flat number when you know there in street and have no pics face or apartment on show.

I would preferably not email her this -now- if it were me, I would lay  low (ultimately you're not doing anything illegal) and wait for your land lady to come over at her own pace. Once in person tell her the story about you being a bubbly girl and having busy social life and all those students coming to your home to do homework. You may need to give some details as to what type of uni projects you're involved that they require your buddies coming in and out. Then  throw in the "stalking neighbour issue" and the race card. The only "red flag" I see here  (was I in your land ladys shoes) is a young pretty student renting an expensive apartment in an affluent neighbourhood, as you know most students your age are sharing in cheap neighbourhoods, so she may (or may not) inquire about were are your finances coming from. hHave your homework ready to answer that question in a very believable way. Practice this conversation several times before she comes and sharpen your communication skills.Stay very calm the whole conversation. I believe she's already on your side (sort of), plus you're paying her rent on time (which is ultimately what all landlords want), but you're going to have to sound very convincing in order for her tell that neighbour to fek of.

If she enquirers as to how you can afford such a place just tell her you have an allowance from your parents, they are extremely proud of the fact you are a good student and have been saving for years for your education which in some cases requires one to live away from home and they didn't want you living in a shared student accommodation in some shitty neighborhood as they want you to achieve great things without to many distractions!  ;).

She does know that part of my income comes from cryptocurrency (which is true). I showed her proof during the application. I invest in altcoins and had some insane returns which helped me to cover part of the 6months' advance rent when I first moved in. I was thinking of telling her that I also run a small consulting business on the side and clients come to the apartment to learn how to invest in crypto plus friends from college also visit. I will make it believable and set up a website etc. But she might also have a problem with running a business from a residential place

If land lady mentioned her something about "entertaining people at home" that means that the stalker neighbour has most probably already dropped the "whore card" to her landlady.

I believe that if she was a white posh looking girl she wouldn't be having this problem so much  :(

She was also assuming this in the beginning; that I come from a rich family. I don't but I will tell her about the allowance
