Ladies, let's talk bed linen!
« on: 16 October 2010, 02:01:17 pm »
Newbie type question, i did a search but nothing came up.

As a new WG working from home, i am very interested to know what other girls do about bed linen!.

As i don't have a spare room, i work from my own, i am currently changing the complete bed linen for each client i see and changing it again for me to sleep in - this is now amounting to a huge pile of washing and ironing, with british weather being how it is and having to use a tumble dryer!

After spending over an hour ironing the creases out of just one duvet set - please tell me what you girls do if you are in a similar situation to myself!

Ironing?Sheets?

Never.

I just hang them up and put them on the bed.

You could buy some throws to make everything a little easier?

People iron sheets ?  ???

I agree with Strawberry, get yourself some soft fleecy throws for rolling around on and simply
whip them off when it's time for sleep.

Yup, soft furry throws and cheap silky ones. After all, you don't get in the bed with clients, just roll around on top.  :)

Yeah, ironing, what's that then? :)

It was the amount of washing generated that led to the brothel in the flats I used to live in being caught out. If you're still working from home when you can hang stuff outside, it may be noticed, so get the 'incontinence' excuse ready :/

No duvet, for a start. I take the duvet off in the morning and fold it up in the living room, just have pillows n sheets. I change the sheets after each client, and the pillows when needed (when they stop looking and/or smelling fresh). I never iron sheets, they usually look fine just from being hung up. And I don't hang them outside - just on a drying rack in the house.

Oh, and I use cheap stuff. No point wasting good stuff on clients. I've had to throw away several sheets because of nasty stuff that either wouldn't wash off, or I didn't want to try!

I compromise and have a lovely expensive satin bed cover (so that all my simple white cotton stuff that I actually sleep in is 100% covered at all times!) with much cheaper blankets and throws on top of that. It creates a nice sumptuous effect with lots of soft colours and textures. Based on my low client volume, I wash the expensive thing once a week, my own stuff once a week (nowt to do with clients, obvs!) and the cheaper throws & blankets after every use. Like Krystal, I've seen some pretty evil stains appear after a client's had a good roll around so now have a policy of 2-3 easily-washed layers *minimum* between a client and my own bed sheets at all time!

And I don't even own an iron. Invention of the devil.

This Google search should give a good idea of some of the range of prices, colours and qualities of bed coverings available - I get more excited shopping for domestic goods now than anything else. ;D If anyone knows anywhere to get decent satin-y bed covers for better value, do let me know!

Fabulous suggestions thanks everyone!
I feel a shopping trip for throws is definitely in order tomorrow - I did see a rather sumptuous black furry one in my local retail park.
Love the sound of satin ones too!

Beware, lube can sometimes stain satin throws.  :-\

I mainly have a cheap double duvet in plain cream kingsize duvet covers (easier to change), which I can boil wash. Unless there is a lot of mess I turn the duvet over, so only have to change after every two clients.

I jazz up the bed with colourful throws and lots of pillows and cushions, which can often be pushed out the way before they get messy and are also quick and easy to wash.

I totally agree with all the above regarding ironing!!!  I hate ironing at the best of times. I sometimes use really big towels.
I don't know if you have a TJ Hughes store where you are, but they do decent quality towels and bed linen at really good prices, or look out for sales at Debenhams and the like.

That's true - make sure any throw you buy is machine washable at a reasonable temperature; I've had a good few lube-y handprints on mine but they do wash out. ;D Drying the thing is a bloody pain, though, since it seems about the same length as my whole flat!

I don't iron anything - careful hanging and drying sorts out the few things I wear which could probably do with it, but I just try and buy stuff that doesn't. What I hate is when you buy mail order stuff and it comes folded up with awful creases in it (then I have to go looking for the travel iron).

I normally get cheap throws from TK Maxx and have at least one massive one on which covers up the whole bed - I also have separate 'punter pillows' which go on the top; I change the pillowcases each time and replace the pillows every few months. The scatter cushions and bits get chucked on the floor straight away so there isn't really that much to wash apart from the throw and the pillowcases , and I've got it down to one load a day most days even when I'm reasonably busy  :D.

i hate changing the  duvet covers so all i do is buy lots of duvet covers  in packs from argos or ikea  and just thorw them over the duvet rather than having to change it all the time  saves no end of time of me being stuck inside a bloody quilt cover with a duvet getting hot and sweaty trying to put it on the quilt on the duvet
