Why do I keep getting BV?
« on: 06 August 2015, 11:14:23 am »
Hi all,
This is my first ever post on here so I apologise if you've covered this topic time and time again!

My last episode of BV was in May this year, but now it's back already. I don't really want to go back to the same sexual health clinic, because they might wonder why I have got it again so soon (I didn't say I was an escort by the way). I was wondering about going to see the nurse at my health centre, as I assume they won't have a record on my notes that I was treated for it recently. Am I correct?

What causes it to constantly come back?  I've switched to using aqueous cream instead of soap and use non-bio washing powders. I've read over and over that condoms don't cause it, but I know loads of sex workers suffer with it so there must be some link somewhere. I'm considering not letting clients insert fingers to avoid bacteria spreading (even though most of my clients are very clean), and possibly trying non-latex condoms in case it's a reaction to the latex.  What do you reck?  Please help xxx

Is it an allergy, perhaps to latex?

Have you tried high dose pro-biotics both orally and as a pessary?

You need to go get it treated, and professionals shouldn't judge you on the number of partners you have.

Bv isn't caused by having lots of partners anyway. Its caused by overwashing, reactions to some lubes, latex baby wipes, soaps etc etc so it makes no difference to going back to the same health professional again. Some civvy women are prone to it as well and flare up around periof time.Have you tried using balance activ not just as a reliever but as a maintanance thing a couple times a week?I get flare ups and I find if I use the balance activ my flare ups lessen. It could well be condoms that are irritating you so trying different ones is a good idea.

It's caused by a pH imbalance that allows a particular strain of bacterium to flourish, hence BalanceActiv or other lactic acid gels are the only thing that will really help when you have mild symptoms, and you'll need antibiotics if you get a bad dose.

The best thing is to have a chat with someone at a sexual health clinic if you keep getting it - it's not linked to how much sex you have, or how many partners etc.

I'm not sure if I've had that but I get thrush alot, mainly in the week before my period. I use a spray called Topida by Salcura. Helps with all round vaginal discomfort & it's natural ingredients. Like Mirror says, use prebiotics. I sometimes use my Acidophillus pills up there & they help. I have a latex allergy & use Mate SKYN.

girl I feel your pain. it's true you can get bv from over-washing but I use to get it from clients fingering me too hard or from rough sex when I'm not lubed up properly. This causes thursh as well. I never wash inside my vagina or use scented soaps by they way. nor do i have a contraceptive coil. My bv got so bad that I started getting it every time my period was over. I went to gp one day cuz I couldnt stop coughing (not related to bv) and she gave me a 2 week course of antibiotics to clear what might have been a chest infection and lo and behold it cleared up my bv and I stopped getting them after every period. so you may need a longer course of antibiotics, not just the 5 day one that they normally give you at the clinic. If that doesn't work then use balance active pessaries cuz taking antibiotics on a regular basis ain't good for you. good luck x

Natural yogurt is good too isn't it. The acid helps restore the PH. I've just read online that apple cider vinegar in the bath helps, apple cider vinegar is good for lots of health benefits. There's also Multi-Gyn too.

Try the following....

Bathe w one part baking soda, apple cider vinegar, and sensitive mr bubble (white bottle) in cool/no hotter than luke warm water no more than 3x/wk

Eat a yogurt a day

Put plain yogurt on a tampon and insert it in yourself (you can also do the same w a yeast infection kit)

Change your soaps

Detox 1-3x a week (if it has a mom DO NOT EAT it)

When you wash your clothes soak them, and put the machine on extended spin/extra rinse

BEST ADVICE above!!!!  These are like tubes of magic, pop some in in the evening and you will wake up BV free. I suffered for years just after a period or when I was run down. I swear by them. BV Actigel xx

Keeping your immune system in top notch condition will help.

If you have the coil, that will increase your likelihood of BV, as will not peeing and showering immediately after sex.

It is a debilitating condition for many and some find it comes up less with latex free condoms and using the hydrid lubricant liquid silk.

Hope you get things sorted soon. xx
