Hello.
Apologies if this has been covered, I searched 'adding banner links' but didn't come up with much.

I have been trying to add banner links to my (free escortsite) website for the reprocial listings, but one of two things keep , not with every link but alot of them-

1) I copy and paste the html code onto my front page and it just comes up loads of text, no banner!

2) The banner seems to work at the time but next time I view my site there is a blank box with a little cross at the top where the banner should be, although if you click on it the link still works. Same thing happened to one of my AW pics a while back.

If anyone could be of any help I would be very grateful, as none of the webmasters will list me until I fix this.

xxx

The little box with a cross is the browser saying 'I can't find that image'.

Do you want to PM / post the banner html? It will either be saying 'the image is on the same server as this website', in which case you need to upload it there, and to where it is expected to be, or 'it is on the other site', in which case they will be able to tell how many visitors your site has.. and it should be working now.

Are you using myescortsite? I got an account there a while ago so I could advise someone else, and I think you had to add banners in a way that's specific to that site, which is a bit of a pain. I think you have to upload the image and then specify the page you want it to link to. If you can't work it out I'll have a look and post instructions.

Yeah, it's escortsite.com .
It's not just one html code not working, it's most of them  ???
I have no clue, sorry.

What I have been doing:
Going to the site I want to link with
Find their banner and code
Copy code
Go to my escort site - manage - pages- edit age check page
Paste the banner html code from clipboard.
Sometimes it works, but most times just a big sprawl of html code comes up. A couple of times I have tried to just right-click on the actual banner picture for the sign i want to join, and then paste it and add a link through the escortsite 'insert link' thing (I think that's what you were saying, Anika Mae) but most of the time the directory won't let me just copy their banner, has to be the html code.

??? ??? All this technology is boggling my brain!

I will try again, then if still not working is it ok to pm for instructions. My new site is nowhere near ready yet, and still waiting on my friend to have a day free to take photos.

Thank You so much for helping.

x

Are you set on escortsite? I've tried their interface and it was pretty annoying. I haven't tried moonfruit but from what people have said it sounds like it makes more sense to use. Also, escortsite puts the "enter" and "exit" buttons under everything else on your age check page, which means that if you insert a load of banners people will have trouble finding the "enter". That's something you can get around though; if you like I can show you how to add another "enter" link above your banners, although it's hard to get it to look good on escortsite.

Something you need to understand is how to upload images, as that's clearly a problem for you at the moment. This is something you need to do with sites that ask you to upload one of their banners to your web space.

First, you need to download the image to your computer. Right-click on the banner and select "save image as" from the menu (don't use "copy image"). Then you'll get a window which will allow you to choose where to save the image. Don't forget what it's called or where you put it!

Whatever service you use to build your website, it will have an option somewhere to upload files. On escortsite this is under "assets" (which is not very obvious).

If you decide to stick with escortsite and you still can't work it out, let me know and I'll explain further. I'd rather do this on the board rather than by PM so anyone else can use the advise too, but feel free to PM me if you want me to look at your site without everyone else seeing it.

Thanks, I think I've nailed it now by saving the image to pc, then inserting a link.
Thank You xxx

Good, but don't forget to check it looks ok on another computer somewhere.

At least one site tries to display graphics that are on the owner's PC. They think everything looks fine, everyone else doesn't.

(That won't be a problem on escortsite as long as the image shows up in your "assets". That means you've uploaded it to their webspace.)
