I watched a documentary once and the Doctor said HPV is the biggest cause of throat cancer.

I looked up the price for it at the gyne clinic Harley Street and it was £100 Where did it cost £500?

For £100 it's definitely worth it, even for peace of mind.

Even though you may have had the HPV virus at some point in your life, it may or may not have been one of the more deadly, cancer causing strains.  That's why you may want to get the vaccine -- at least that's what my doctor told me.

It's also easy to get oral cancer screenings at your dentist, if they provide that service.  I do this on a regular basis as a precaution to catch anything at an early stage.  The longer you've been in the game, the more opportunities for picking up a virulent strain.

Even if you've had a virulent/cancer-causing strain of HPV, it's still worth getting the vaccine, as preliminary studies have indicated that having the injections after infection could prevent the re/occurrence of HPV-induced lesions or abnormalities by something like I think 30% (iirc? a really large percentage anyway).

There's currently a larger-scale, international trial underway in the UK many other countries which aims to confirm this (I know this as I received the Gardasil vacc for free as part of it, after LLETZ surgery for cervical abnormalities caused by HPV. Saved me 500£!)

I'm actually really worried about this as my voice has changed over the last 2 months, even my most regular client noticed. Should I go to doctors or sexual health?

This is your GP's remit, not sexual health.

If there are any changes to your voice continuously for two weeks (and longer) you're supposed to be given an x-ray to ensure there is nothing sinister responsible for this. It might just be laryngitis or stress, yes, the latter can effect one's vocal chords. If it is the latter you might be offered speech therapy.

However, be advised that some GPs are (unsurprisingly) useless with this. I had noticeable changes to my voice (and at times, I couldn't speak completely); it took my GP six months to send me for an x-ray.

Thanks Miffy. I've got a lot wrong with me at the moment so could be just stress. It is noticeable though. Even before escorting I sucked a lot of dick.

What i will say ages back i kept getting tonsilitis and ill for 10 days after and had to keep getting antibiotics and this came from oral sex that was the trigger from the bacteria i had lots of investigations and it was down to oral sex. It goes to show what damage that service could cause and the pain was awful. So nothing surprises me what could happen throat wise.

Hi all,

I'm 34 so didn't get offered the HPV vaccine at school (I think they brought it in when I was in my late teens). I'm thinking it is perfect beneficial for us to have it and I'm wondering if anyone has been successful in getting it from their GP or at a Sexual Health clinic. I've seen it's available privately but would rather avoid the cost if possible although if it comes to it I will pay.

It looks to only be offered to teens or men who have sex with men but I did some digging and found some guidance from NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence, basically the body NHS care should be based on) suggest there could be "considerable benefit" for sex workers so really going to try and push for it.

Would be great to hear of any other experiences and I'm happy to update with my progress
