I've already posted a thread on here today but thought I would start this as a new one as it's a bit different. I phoned an agency today with a view to joining. The lady was very kind and friendly but said that she couldn't get me the work that I wanted as she would only be able to get me a booking a month (she hadn't seen any photos of me or asked what I looked like, so it wasn't anything to do with my appearance) . She said that all agencies were interested in was the money and if I couldn't be ready at half an hour's notice they wouldn't call me again. She said that it was very easy to get pulled down and become depressed and cynical. I can well imagine that you need to have a strong character and be goal focused but I found it quite an odd experience that the first agency I phoned tried to talk me out of it! Maybe she was trying to prepare me though.

What do you think about this? I'd really love an hour or so to get ready for a start!! x

Hi XW . Yeah I knew that it was primarily about money-  I was just suprised at her saying I would rarely get work and I'd never get work if I couldn't be ready straight away! I mean if I'd told her what I looked like and she thought I would only appeal to a niche market I would understand but she didn't! x

Yes that does sound a little bizarre to say the least.
In my experience most agencies wont give you much info over the phone,they usually prefer to meet up in person.
I would advise to forget about that particular agency and to try some other ones. PM if you want to chat about dealing with agencies cos ive met a few in my time and would be happy to help. Hopefully we can prevent you ending up in a situation like i am at the minute.
