Condom split twice this week - what am I doing wrong??
« on: 10 October 2013, 01:51:52 pm »
I've never had a condom split before, then two in a couple days of each other! I've pretty much finished freaking out about it, it happened & I'll have to go and get tested, I just want to minimise the chance of it happening again!

After the 1st one, I read through some threads and decided it was down to the condom being too tight, and maybe it being from a brand called EXS instead of Pasante, which I usually use. Then today I used Pasante and it split again (different guy)  :(

I didn't use baby oil or non-condom-safe lube, wasn't wearing a sponge, I squeezed air out of the tip...only difference I can think is that 30-40 mins of this appt were PIV sex. Do you need to put a fresh one on if it's been in use for a certain amount of time/position changes? Also I didn't put any lube on myself or the condom, could that be it?

I'd say the wrong size is a big possibility. I read a thread on here a while ago that some GUM clinics give you a little demo on "If a penis looks this size use a bigger one etc" and I always mean to check that out, I just kinda guess! And yeah I always suggest (without room to refuse me lol) to change the condom after half an hour or so constant sex. I suggest it when we're changing position, not been unlucky enough yet to not have a position swap opportunity to suggest it in. I just say "Oh hold on a sec pet, let's change this for a fresh one in case it's weakened, before we get back to it!"
I like my men clean, gentlemanly and with envelopes...

Hey

I am sorry this happened to you. I use Durex condoms with Durex lubes and I always change the condom after giving oral before sex and also if I have been having sex for a long time or in different positions, I can usually feel the condom weakening as it starts to become dry so I always stop and change it.

Size can be a problem also, always best to have some large condoms for large guys.

xx

Have you caught it with your nails or rings etc? Also ive seen them when they go dry and kind of bobbly and breakdown, maybe that could have caused it too? Hope your little rubbery friends behave from now on ;)

Sorry to hear you have to go through the wait to get the test results. Never fun. They weren't sitting somewhere like a window ledge in direct sunlight were they? Or maybe check the use by dates on the remaining ones if they were both from the same box. Could just be coincidence but you might want to throw the rest of the box away in case there's something wrong with them.

Here's a list of what I consider to be leading contributory factors;

Brand I only use EXS for their small size, and I find smaller penis's tend not to split condoms
Not enough lube (never be afraid to apply lube, embarassment is a lot less than how you feel with a split)
Vigorous and/or continuous sex especially if it involves the bouncing porn star movement (where guy bobs in and out, pulls the condom tighter and tighter)
Not leaving loose space at the end
Oil contact

Lube and action tend to be most important factors in my experience. If you think the condom is stretching at the head, then stop and either replace or slacken it off. Many men don't realise you need the space at the end, or how certain movements put a lot of stress on the condom.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! I will definitely replace if sex goes on for a while, and use plenty of lube. Yes the guy was doing that bobbing porn star thing (also a weird movement like he was trying to draw a circle with it? that probably put some extra stress on it).

From the top of my head, a range of possible causes:
Wrong size
Not enough/any lube
You tore condom with nail while putting it on
Air in end of condom
Using a lube unsuited to condoms (oil based)
Lipstick/lipgloss degrading condom (again coz of oils)
Client damaged condom when putting it on
Your teeth caught condom when opening packet
Dodgy batch of condoms

Not well worded, I know! I meant when they pull right back, so the tip comes out, then thrust in again vigorously. Doesn't seem like it'd be comfy for them so it must come from porn.

Thanks, they have been since I followed the advice in this thread about lube - never been so happy to see a spunk-filled condom before!  ;D

Its always best to lube yourself up before bookings to prevent this and try to get one that is reactivated with moisture. That way, if you're able to, you can spit on your fingers discretly and reactivate the lube with your fingers.

Also check the dates on your condoms.

Sorry to heard this has happenned to you and I hope all is ok.

Thanks - never heard of the moisture reactivating ones, I'll have a look! Touch wood this hasn't happened since I started generously lubing up the condom first.
