Ingrowing Hair... Down THERE!!
« on: 19 September 2011, 03:58:10 pm »
Hi Girls,

Whilst waiting until I have the cash for laser treatments, I have to shave - which is bad... but waxing is worse for me in regards to ingrown hair...

Has anyone got any unusual tips or tricks to avoid these red bumps sent from hell?!? I exfoliate, moisturise, use ingrow-stop etc etc but nothing seems to work - particularly when we girls must stay well-groomed 24/7.

I read somewhere that strippers/las vegas showgirls use unfragranced deoderant? Anyone tried this? I'm assuming it would be quite noticeable on the pallette for clients! ;)

Clinique 'toner', the pink stuff that looks like methylated spirits. Wipe over after shaving and before moisturising.  Has worked for me after years of trying just about everything else.

I'm not going to be any help when I say: I don't do hair removal, and don't suffer from in grown hairs  8)

Why would anyone use ANY deoderant on their lady parts?  ???

It's antiperspirant, not just deodorant, and it's supposed to prevent shaving rash by closing the pores but I doubt it would make any difference to ingrown hairs.

Alcohol is also meant to close pores (maybe less than the antiperspirant), which is why men use aftershave and some women use perfume in it's place. Cold water works too; that's what I used to use.

Is it definitely ingrowns? Red bumps can just be shaving rash and for that the antiperspirant/alcohol/cold will help, but lots of exfoliating will make it worse. Good shaving products and not shaving whenever possible also really helps.

If it's really ingrowns though I don't know. Some people just get them more than others :-/.

I've had IPL treatment and that has been the best money ever spent.  I used to get really bad in grown hair because I have really curly thick hair.  I used to use lavender oil and tea tree oil, it does smell when you put it on, but eventually wears off.

The lavender oil is to calm the skin after shaving and tea tree oil is to prevent and draw out in-growns.

The Clinique toner Strawberry mentioned also works, but I lived miles from anywhere that sold it and I was way to lazy to go and get it.

Now that I've been IPL ed no problem.  You can also buy home laser/ILP machines now, I've just bought the Boots one.  I want to do my arms and legs.  Hopefully it works, the reviews are pretty good.

I used to suffer from terrible ingrowns all over my legs ans bikini line and left terrible scars which would make me feel really self conscious around clients so I spent over a two grand on a course of 6 laser treatements and aswell as fading away the scars the hair growth is so sparse that I dont even shave anymore :).

The tips the clinic always gave me was to use ALOE VERA twice a day and I found that helped and of course exfoliate, also a solution called TEND SKIN LIQUID worked wonders for the few ingrowns I got whilst undergoing the laser and the solution zapped them immediately and I would recommend this product to anyone you can buy it off AMAZON for under a fiver.

For the laser you can get really good deals on Goupon like 6 small areas i.e bikini treated for under ?100.

Hope that helps xx

I avoid ingrown hairs by not shaving completely. I trim right down using a razor but by shaving in the hairs direction rather than against if the makes sense? Works me  :)

Another endorsement for Tendskin from me.   Believe salicylic (spelling?) acid is the active ingredient - a component of aspirin.

Not always 100%, but I put that down to what I'm wearing and how much the area is getting chaffed

I think ingrown hair in the intimate area is unavoidable with shaving. I don't get this anywhere else on the body, not on legs, not at the underarms. So I stopped shaving down there and I instead pluck out hair by hair with the pincers. It's not as time consuming s it might seem, especially after I got into the habit of it and do it regularly as the hairs grow back. Nowadays I do it once a week and takes me about 45 minutes. The result is also better looking and longer lasting than shaving.

I doubt tweezering is going to be any better for ingrowns than waxing. I think you're in the minority if pulling hair out gets you fewer ingrowns than shaving; my housemate and I both get more of them from epilating (which is automatic tweezering) than from shaving.

What kind of epilator do you use?
I recently bought a braun silk epil 7, and it BITES!
Each time I use it, I'm worried I'm going to accidentally perform a female circumcision on myself.
And yes, in growing hairs are worse when the hair is removed at the root, they get finer and it's harder for them to find their way out.
Think laser removal is the way to go...
Let go of my ears! I know what I'm doing!

I use one of the braun ones but only on legs and bikini line, not the undercarriage. The flesh there is too squishy so yeah, it gets caught. Plus it's freaky.
