Newbie - is this a scam?
« on: 05 September 2024, 11:31:34 pm »
Hi all, I'm new to this. Heard lots of good things but I'm a bit wary!  I know they say if something is too good to be true then it's probably a scam! I have received the e-mail information below with an offer to accompany a woman to Nigeria. I've tried confirming as much as I can but something doesn't seem legit. Lots of red flags. But am I being over cautious? It's a lot of money to give up but i don't want end up rotting in a foreign prison or worse. Opinions please?

"Thank you for getting back to me. I want you to know that everything is going to be fine, all I need from you is to escort me down there and gimme maximum massages and more.

All you need to do now is to get prepared for this trip as there is no time to waste at all, we are going to Abuja, Nigeria, it's a Vacation Trip and we will fly Turkish Airlines, we will be staying in the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

I have already made an arrangement with a travelling agency in Abuja that will work on your travel itinerary and hotel reservations, so they told me all that is required of me to do. I will get that done on my side as soon as possible also as soon as your papers are ready your upfront payment will be made available to you.

All you need to do now is to get back to them on their email address for your further processing ([removed]) just notify them you are from me and you want to travel with me on my trip to Abuja okay? Also about your upfront fees, it will be when everything has been processed successfully and posted to you.

Payment will be strict via cash at hand okay, please if you are okay with this you can get back to the travel agency as soon as possible for prompt processing to begin, hope to read from you soon.

Regards."

----------------------

"Good day to you.

Cash upfront is perfectly fine. Can you please confirm how much you are offering?

Also, I will need to get vaccinations for Yellow Fever etc.

I have read that it is not very safe in Abuja at the moment. How will you guarantee our safety whilst on the trip?

Many thanks

Mike"

----------------

"Good day to you,

I am confirming that i am offering you 2500 per day which for the whole day is 12500 for the whole 5 days.

I have made an arrangement for the vaccination for yellow fever, chicken pox and fever.

I am assuring of your safety through out our stay in Abuja, Abuja is a safe city and i have also arrange for maximum security.

If you agree and willing to go with me, i urge you to get in touch with motherland agency for your visa application."

-‐-----------

All I have done so far is ask more questions. I've not provided any information or clicked on any links!

Thank you all for your help

Anything that claims a straight male escort (any straight male escort, let alone one with no experience, online presence or credibility) will get a lengthy, lucrative booking from a lone woman he has never met before is 99.99% scam. If it's come via an agency which claims it can get straight male escorts regular work with female clients, that figure rises to 100%.

A similar proportion of booking requests like this supposedly made by male punters to female sex workers will also be scams, so in this case it isn't only a matter of your sex. This looks like a classic phishing email to obtain your personal details; if you reply to it I think we already have a version of the next email you'll receive on here somewhere.

We can't stop you going ahead, but if you still think it sounds like a plan I have a bridge you might be interested in.

Generally speaking, anything that sounds too good to be true, is.

Especially if they try to instill a sense of urgency, like "I need your bank details now because the bank closes soon and I need to speak to someone to make the transfer, if you don't tell me now you're the one missing out"

If the email address that got redacted was for the travel agency you could look them up and see if they seem legit, maybe contact them without mentioning your potential patron and ask questions as if you're wanting to book something for yourself.  If that throws them for a loop then it's likely the same person playing both roles and phishing for your personal info; or the "agent" will need an immediate payment to cover something, which you'll need to pay out of pocket RIGHT NOW (there's the urgency again!) but ofc your patron will reimburse you...

OMG... DO YOU WANT TO GET DEFRAUDED
what are you doing? PLEASE stop every interaction with this person or persons.
So all these stories of Nigeria fraud scams and sex trafficking ritual killings,  don't you hear about them or you don't know.

Please do not give them any personal info of any sorts!! I have a feeling at some point when you contact the “travel agency” they will ask you for some sort of payment for those “vaccines” So they can proceed with the “paperwork” in order for you to get some sort of “upfront payment”.

I’ve heard that scam in the form of some “emirati Prince” who asks women to fly to some exotic location where she’ll be paid tons of money but the “Nigerian woman” targeting men never heard.

I would have been tempted to keep talking to them but only to find out at what point I was asked for money because of (insert vaguely plausible lie).

For anyone who's time is worth more than mine - almost everyone here - block and ignore such obvious scams.
