Keeping track for 2009
« on: 09 January 2009, 03:22:17 am »
Just wanted to ask a quick question regarding keeping track of earnings throughout the year. Please PM only. Was wondering if it's necessary to do so or does it not matter?

hi joey

sorry i don;'t understand your question; or what you exactly mean by keeping track

however keeping a financial diary of incoming and outgoing regarding your business is definitely useful and would be a requirement if you register with the tax man.

also as a business it is good to have financial awareness

On  a silmilar vein - how many of you ladies/gents register with inland revenue as professional escorts and claim business expenses?
Is it worth it?

yes thats what I meant. Meaning, whether its necessary to 'data entry' each time we get a booking. I had done it once last summer, but then got bored and just decided to not to. However, with it being the beginning of the year...I want to be able to monitor which months and which times of the year do better...I like having stats and data to look back on.

The only reason I asked is to know if others do the same, or if its not necessary.

Surely its completely different for you.  Its a legal profession over here which is why we pay tax on it which means we need to keep track of our income, we are classed as self employed.  Surely if its illegal in the US then its just cash in hand for you so its your decision how you monitor your incomings and outgoings

That makes plenty sense. Thats why Americans constantly say, "legalize marijuana and prostitution and just tax it". Call me crazy but something tells me it would sure do more good to our economy than fighting it. Much more with the latter. (I have quite a repulsion to pot heads)

But then again, our country is quite greedy. They'd probably tax us up the ass and leave us with very little so I shant wish it to happen so soon  >:( ::) :-\ ???

I just take the money after each booking (or day) and split it 3 ways into different places:

money for the house and bills, food etc in my purse
money to save in my saving tin in the drawer
money to treat myself with - in a separate purse for my next shopping trip!

If i don't do this i just spend it recklessly.

It's a good idea to keep track though, that way you can see a pattern of which days/weeks/months are busier and take your days off on the quiet days(although you can probably see the pattern without keeping a written or computer record). The massage place i work in one day a week has everything all organised and they have a TON of paperwork to do all the time though. x

if you want to see which months are better than others its definitely worth keeping a record, as you said yourself.

however i also would suggest to monitor it and monitor the advertisements you have done, with that you can easily see what advertising has what effect and how long does it take etc.
