Are STI/Sexual health clinics anon?
« on: 28 February 2024, 02:35:08 pm »
Hi all,

Apologies if this is on the wrong part of the forum, it's been years and years since I posted here!

I had a mistake at the weekend (non-escorting capacity if you can bloody beleive it  ::)) and need emergency contraception.

I react badly to hormonal stuff and so thinking of getting a copper coil put in.

I called a local clinic in my city and pretty much they said no (on a technicality) - because of the dates of previous sex, etc, ultimately a 'computer says no' type thing, even though I know 100% I have only had one instance of risky sex and it was this one a few days ago, and I am well within the limits for getting a coil. The Dr was unfriendly and unhelpful.

I have contacted a clinic in the next town over, to try again - and only mentioning the one instance of sex that I *know* happened just a few days ago, on the edge of my 'fertile window'.

My question is - Google tells me STI clinics are anonymous, and so I've given the new clinic a fake address and DOB but my real name. I was shitting myself thinking I'd be rumbled or the receptionist would see the call from my local clinic on my records and say 'why are you trying to get a coil when you've been rejected at another clinic?'

Just looking for some reassurance that they can't see a record of the call I had with the local clinic and that it *is* anonymous!?

Thanks so much x

As far as I'm aware records are only shared between clinics if it's the same service running out of different locations, if that makes sense? So for example in the NE you have the 1-2-1 service which run clinics in 2 different towns but they're the same service and share computer systems and staff.  They don't have access to my GP records or the records of the other NHS and private clinics I've been to.

I've also had staff disagree with the decisions others have made from different clinics and their colleagues in the same clinic so it is very difficult to get a consistent answer sometimes as it depends on who you see on the day.

During your appointment you'll normally have to fill out a form with your details again so be sure they're memorable as you won't want a discrepancy being highlighted while you're there. You may also need them again in future, and your correct mobile number may be needed for a follow up call after the coil has been installed.  There's normally a question on the form where they ask for consent to contact your GP and let them know what's gone on in your appointment, this might be helpful for a reminder when they coil is due to be changed but could also flag up your details not matching
