The best thing to do is Google the risks then you can decide.I just use a sponge and take the pill with light periods. Any pill with the name acid in it sounds bizarre to me. But then again I'm very health conscious.

It's just a chemical term: acetic acid = vinegar; salicylic acid = aspirin. It's also interchangeable with 'ate', i.e. citrate/citric acid is the same thing.

That's incorect. Salycylic acid is in cosmetics.

After reading everything here I thought that the drug first mentioned, over here it's norlutate, might help. I man aged to get some. I took 3x5mg today and it's down to a tinge of pink when wiping sorry for tmi, thank fucking god!!!! With any luck I'll be back working tomorrow  ;D thanks again.

I use the coil and my periods are unpredictable too , for that reason I use norethisterone regularly . At the first sign of period pains , if at a bad/inconvenient time I resort to using them for however many days required . They work without fail ....
I was originally prescribed them, for several months ,  whilst on the contraceptive injection and continuously bleeding .
Anyway , I personally find them a life safer of sort of sort  ;D

I'm on norithsterone permanently along with cerezette and get them on a prescription due to a blood disorder.

Slight hormone imbalance at first, but I settled down pretty quickly.
They do the job:

As much as I hate having a period I would hate even more taking pills to mess up my body and stop me from bleeding.  I can't begin to imagine what damage they do to us.....

Do be aware that if anyone suffers with migraine, especially migraine with aura using the combined pill (which is usually the one with estrogen which is used to stop menstruation), there can be a significant stroke risk.

I had to stop using the combined pill when my migraine with aura attacks became more frequent, the symptoms were incredibly like having a stroke.  I thought it was due to stress but once I stopped the pill, they went back to one every 6-12 months.

By the way I didn't use the pill to prevent periods, only as contraception but thought it worth mentioning in case anyone with migraine is reading.

Hi ladies.
I currently have the copper coil (5year one) and still have regular periods.
It's due out in November.
I was thinking of trying new contraception, but this time one that will stop my periods.
I would like your advice on the best type to go for? Also if you had any problems conceiving afterwards?
Also, when I had the coil put in it was really painful and I was worried about it having taken out. Is it painful to take out and how long before you can work again if anyone has had one?
Thanks x

I agree, you can't play with your body clock without expecting some sort of consequence further down the line. Its a bit like burning the candle at both ends, yes it can be done but eventually your body rebels...

Also the mefenamic acid I wouldn't touch (ever again)  with a barge pole.

I've had that having IUDs taken out is much less painful than the insertion.

A Mirena coil or oral contraceptives shouldn't affect fertility/conception once you have it removed or stop taking them.

Actually, I thought the same when the first period-reducing oral contraceptive came out, but then read an interesting article about why it was fine. I can't remember why, but one thing to note is that pre-1960 women had fewer periods because of later menarche and then lots of pregnancies and breast-feeding, plus earlier mortality. There's no evidence of long-term effects if you cease or reduce ovulation.
