Title: How to stop a period?!!
Post by: BadBell on 19 August 2016, 12:03:37 am
Ive got an Important booking next week which is worth a lot of money to me and my period is due. I used the online doctor and got myself Norethisterone 5 mg which apparently delays your menstrual bleed. Has anybody used these pills before and how effective are they please? xxx

Oh God, please do not take them. I had some pills prescribed by my GP once to delay my period and the cramps I got when I stopped taking them were indescribable. Can't you use beppe sponges or anything?

I havent used those pills but I wouldnt suggest taking it.

Theres so many other options out there.

I have about 3-4 periods a year (if that) due to the contraceptive implant in my arm. You can also try sponges or just reschedule the booking.

I use them regularly .... The cramping , once you stop, is real but to me worth it . Oh and I only use 2 a day , rather than the 3 pills a day the doctors prescribes and it works for me .
I wear the coil but do occasionally get periods , unpredictably .... Norethisterone stops them immediately (within a few hours ).

If you take the contraceptive pill just don't have the 7 day break continue taking them and you won't come on.

They make me itch. When my period comes on once I'm off them it's not nice. Then again it never is but these pills seem to make it worse.

I use Norethisterone usually when I go on holiday, I will be using them for my holiday at the end of this month and did so with my holiday last month. I never get cramps with them and I'm someone who sometimes suffers with awful period pain, I don't feel bloated or anything and find them a godsend, I've used them a couple times when I've had an advanced booking and my period has come early and never had an issue! I have tried Utovlan before and they made me have a period for
12 days straight! So would never use those again.

I would recommend Norethisterone to be honest. X

A few years back I tried the contraceptive injection. It didn't react well with my body at all, in fact I bled constantly for the whole 12 weeks. It wasn't heavy bleeding or anything but bleeding full stop is just not nice to have to deal with when it won't stop!!
Anyways the doctor prescribed me tranexamic acid, and at one point he also prescribed mefanamic acid. They both worked very well for me, the bleeding stopped within a few hours of taking my first dose with both of them and there were no side effects. Mefanamic acid is also an anti inflammatory, most commonly prescribed for people with very bad period pains and cramping etc, so if taking stuff to stop you bleeding tends to give you period pains then I personally would recommend the mefanamic acid, however i did do a googke search of it and it doesn't stop everyone's periods 100% apparently (although it did mine and 2 other girls i knoe eho were perscribed it) so it might be worth asking your doctor to prescribe a coutse of it and see how you get on with it.
Hope you manage to find something that works for you in time for your booking, let us know how you get on!
xXx

The best thing to do is Google the risks then you can decide.I just use a sponge and take the pill with light periods. Any pill with the name acid in it sounds bizarre to me. But then again I'm very health conscious.

It's just a chemical term: acetic acid = vinegar; salicylic acid = aspirin. It's also interchangeable with 'ate', i.e. citrate/citric acid is the same thing.

salicylic acid = aspirin.

That's incorect. Salycylic acid is in cosmetics.

I tried that bum injection Depro something or other in my 20s didn't have a period for 18months. Made me completely loopy though.

Badbell and everyone, thank you soooo much!!!! Inadvertently this post has saved me. My period had going on so long and while it had been very light it was still severly impacting my life, not to mention this last week it had gotten heavy enough to prevent any bookings!!!! I was freaking out and totally losing it.

After reading everything here I thought that the drug first mentioned, over here it's norlutate, might help. I man aged to get some. I took 3x5mg today and it's down to a tinge of pink when wiping sorry for tmi, thank fucking god!!!! With any luck I'll be back working tomorrow  ;D thanks again.

I use the coil and my periods are unpredictable too , for that reason I use norethisterone regularly . At the first sign of period pains , if at a bad/inconvenient time I resort to using them for however many days required . They work without fail ....
I was originally prescribed them, for several months ,  whilst on the contraceptive injection and continuously bleeding .
Anyway , I personally find them a life safer of sort of sort  ;D

Slight hormone imbalance at first, but I settled down pretty quickly.

As much as I hate having a period I would hate even more taking pills to mess up my body and stop me from bleeding.  I can't begin to imagine what damage they do to us.....

Do be aware that if anyone suffers with migraine, especially migraine with aura using the combined pill (which is usually the one with estrogen which is used to stop menstruation), there can be a significant stroke risk.

I had to stop using the combined pill when my migraine with aura attacks became more frequent, the symptoms were incredibly like having a stroke.  I thought it was due to stress but once I stopped the pill, they went back to one every 6-12 months.

By the way I didn't use the pill to prevent periods, only as contraception but thought it worth mentioning in case anyone with migraine is reading.

Hi ladies.
I currently have the copper coil (5year one) and still have regular periods.
It's due out in November.
I was thinking of trying new contraception, but this time one that will stop my periods.
I would like your advice on the best type to go for? Also if you had any problems conceiving afterwards?
Also, when I had the coil put in it was really painful and I was worried about it having taken out. Is it painful to take out and how long before you can work again if anyone has had one?
Thanks x

I agree, you can't play with your body clock without expecting some sort of consequence further down the line. Its a bit like burning the candle at both ends, yes it can be done but eventually your body rebels...

Also the mefenamic acid I wouldn't touch (ever again)  with a barge pole.

I've had that having IUDs taken out is much less painful than the insertion.

A Mirena coil or oral contraceptives shouldn't affect fertility/conception once you have it removed or stop taking them.

Actually, I thought the same when the first period-reducing oral contraceptive came out, but then read an interesting article about why it was fine. I can't remember why, but one thing to note is that pre-1960 women had fewer periods because of later menarche and then lots of pregnancies and breast-feeding, plus earlier mortality. There's no evidence of long-term effects if you cease or reduce ovulation.

There is a homoeopathic remedy you can take to help lessen the time you actually menstruate.  Anybody feel free to message me although I am not a qualified homoeopath. At least it feels more natural than anything medical.

Mine only last 4 days since taking it.

You can get pills from the doctor to delay it, but when I took them they turned me into an emotional wreck!  So if you're sensitive to hormones just be wary.

Tranexamic acid tablets can be bought over the counter and will slow the blood flow but have you thought of using sponges?

I use gynotex or beppy.  I work through my period, NO problem.

Norethisterone is the one and will stop one in it's tracks for up to 21 days but then you get a horrific period when you stop them .

Women often take for holidays/ honeymoons etc , you can get online from superdrug if you fill in the form.

Also Push doctor is great ( online nhs doctors) you FaceTime a GP and the prescription is in a chemist of your choice within 15 mins but that costs around 25 pounds for appointment and private prescription cost which wasn't much .

I use Utovlan. I get it from superdrug online pharmacy, it's pricey - about ?20 for a week/?30 for 10 days? but a Godsend if you can't afford to have a period. It delays my period, ie, taking it 3 days before I'm due and then every day until I want it to start.

However, as an experiment ( ::)) I did take a day (or two) dose of it during a period and it stopped, but it started again when I stopped taking the pills (so I sort of split my period in two) The cramps the next day were killer but I survived.

Probably shouldn't say this but at a pinch, 400mg of ibroprofen reduces bleeding. I am on contraceptives, but once every couple of months I get a really heavy spot bleeding. I find that 400mg of ibroprofen taken every 6 hours will reduce it to the point of either stopping temporarily, or you can put a tiny bit of sponge in for piece of mind. I do tell my clients if I have been spot bleeding though.

600 mg of ibuprofen are the actual strength of tabs my dentist prescribes , apparently it's an ok dose but google/ check with pharmacist first .

Each tablet was 600mg

I used 3 different online chemists based in England and alternate   , the ones that offer 90 tablets i.e a month supply and in my case I stretch it to 45 days . I also on occasion order from abroad in large numbers (like 180 tabs ) sus giving reasonable gaps to my ordering pattern if that makes sense .

I just ordered some from Lloyd's Pharmacy online. I took my period today- the same days as starting a 3 day tour. Thought I'd be ok with sponges as it has worked previously but not a chance. Bled all over my client, was mortified and had to cancel everything else I had booked today. So gutted :(

Hopefully these work because I can't afford not to work. And many men want the full works, not just oral. Fingers crossed!

Well I've not tried but I've been assured by someone that squeezing a few lemons and drinking can work don't know how much exactly but have seen it online.

It makes a bit of sense as I think it may have a similar effect to tranexamic acid tabs !

It was actually a female cabbie that told me as we were talking menopause stuff and she said it had worked for her and her sister  ??? Sounds Barmy and a bit acidic but hey

Hello ladies,

I just bought a box of norethisterone so my understanding is that I have to take it a few days before the actual period, keep taking it and then the day I stop, my period will arrive in 3 days? Could you confirm that it is the way it works? (does it also work if you usually get very heavy period)? Sorry I have to organise my work, and unfortunately, my period is on the way  :FF

Also, imagine if my period cycle is 30days, will my period come on the next cycle 30 days later as usual? any side effects, is it dangerous for your health?

Thanks xx :)

I didn't know this about delaying a period.  I knew that lemons can lessen the libido but had no idea that they can actually delay a period.

Lemon can bring on cold sores though so I would only try one a day or something.  Interesting though.  :)

Totally work I have mega heavy lumpy ones and for me they will stop it even in full flow in an hour or so and it's like holding back a Dam!

However if you get bloated etc that won't go and sore boobs won't either , you can take for 3 weeks but when you stop you will get a mother fucker of a period with really bad ( I mean bed) cramping , unless your very lucky but there's loads of stuff online about it from regular women who've taken for holiday, honeymoons etc so take a look.

It did enable me to work a few times but I would never take again , ever it really screws your cycle up.

Also for me it was like having Bromide put in my tea !

I've took it recently  took it 3 days before period was due thrn when I stopped it my period started bang on 3 days later
Wasn't heavy in fact it was quite light / normal
I've used it twice now in recent months with no problems

With this line of work I think it's good to have this option, my period got irregular recently which fucked up all my pre-bookings, so hopefully it will work! My period is usually mega heavy and painful anyway, I also have fever,, so I have to be in bed.
It has happened sometime I worked with a sponge during the first day when it is barely there (best to avoid imo, I will never do again), a friend of mine told me to use a baby wipe (which you wash and fold) and use it instead of the sponge, apparently more absorbent, any of you have tried this technique?

I really wouldn't use a baby wipe a sponge ( proper one for menstruation) is designed properly and hygienic , but baby wipes have all sorts of perfume on and getting it out could be difficult once it's pushed up .

Bad idea IMO

Agreed I wouldn't use a wipe either.  A proper soft tampon (sponge) is made hygienically and individually wrapped.  A wet wipe is also far more likely to move out of place and get stuck.  You can bulk buy sponges on line for a couple of quid each.

Tell me about it ! I blow up and get tons of water retention which actually changes my figure ( I'm pretty trim so I feel like it makes my pics look different which is something I'm concious about , I've got some really good water tablets but there prescription only .

They really work though and if anyone wants water sports it's a bonus !

I do feel for you though because it makes planning ahead difficult xx

I honestly feel like I am going to explode, at least no signs of any periods at the moment which is great ;D so If I want my period to start on 24/01 when do I have to stop taken the medicine considering I am taking it since the 19/01?  :-*

Please note that I do not recommend the following ...
I have taken noresthisterone for months at a time with no ill effect , apart perhaps from some weight gain ( I keep telling myself that )
I get away with taking 2 tablets a day rather than the prescribed 3. When I do take a break , I usually start cramping and spotting after 2 days of stopping taking the pills .

For me it's within hours of stopping if it's heavy but sometimes yes , the same as Miss Behaving xxx

Woo ok, yes my period is usually mega heavy but on the packet it says it will start after 3-5 days after stopping, I have made plans for work so 5days is too long of a wait, I will stop it on 23/01 and hopefully period will arrive soon ;) x

ok ladies, just some follow up on the medicine, the period is now starting to arrive! So yes it actually worked thank god  ;)although yesterday I had some violent pain, like almost I want to go for a pee but couldn't + burning sensation  :'( not very pleasant...and some sort of "punch feeling" on my lower stomach + headache... the good news is that I am off for over a week, but I would seriously reconsider re-using this drug as the side effect are quite high....does any of you has their period on the next following cycle as always or did you have some delay?

Hello

I am working in a few hours for a long booking of 8hours! But my period suddenly started and is very heavy now, my friend recommended me to wear two sponges but I am aware the client might feel them, I am so nervous, what do you recommend me to do?

Thanks

How long would it normally take you to go through a sponge? In an 8hr booking you're going to have plenty of chances to pop to the bathroom and change a sponge, so I'd go for it, use a single sponge at a time but make sure you change it every 2-3 hours.

Sometimes only an hour, the booking went ok, I insisted to do anal  ::) he was the most happiest man considering his size haha but all ok, I put 2 sponges he didn’t feel it hehe  ;)

I try not to work the first days of my period as it can be heavy and I hate being in a booking scared Incase there is leakage etc.

Had a horrible experience years ago where I was working in a brothel type establishment and it was quiet and all the girls were sleeping and we had to wake up when two clients arrived. I got picked by one of the guys but because I was sleeping I didn’t have a chance to rinse my sponge.
The booking was  nearly over and there was blood on the condom. It was horrible.
He complained and then got his friend to complain to the maid etc asking for his money back.

I was so embarrassed but it was my fault and I did really learn from it. Always work during the final days of a period and am rinsing the sponge every hour.

Apparently the best most absorbent sponges are the sea sponges I’ve heard though I have yet to try them.

If your period is unusually long then the doctor should be able to give you medication to stop your period, I can’t remember if it’s 10 days that you take the meds for, or if your period comes back after 10 days, anyway whatever it is then you should still get the pill.

I've taken Norethisterone a few times, but I haven't in a long time--it wouldn't be my first or second choice due to the side effects--mainly very painful cramping that just won't stop and a nauseous feeling.   It's basically synthetic progesterone, so there are many factors for how it will affect you.  If you do take it, I'd recommend trying it during a non-busy time so you can be aware of what happens.  The side effects can vary widely.

Currently I would just use a sponge.  Some clients go crazy at the though of blood and a clean sponge is so important, and others are very accepting of it.  Either way, I have to be super careful to change the first few days.

I was on tour recently arrived at the hotel and my period started. I wanted to cry as i had paid for everything. I had no choice but to run to the local pharmacy and buy a sponge. I only inserted the sponge 5 mins before each client arrived to make sure there wasnt any leaks from too much blood and took it straight out after. I soaked the sponge in warm water beforehand so it goes in easily. I made an excuse and didnt allow any fingering (incase they foud it). It worked fine and i had good tour but i wouldnt do it again.

Hazzard sorry you had to deal with that.

Did you have to ask at the pharmacy counter for a sponge? I've never seen them on the shelf.

I’ve taken Primulot. Which I think is the same family of the medicine others have recommended. At times to take it to delay a period by 3-5 days if I know work needs to take prevalence  over an active period. I don’t work with a sponge. Men can feel it. It’s uncomfortable. It’s not fresh enough and neutral feeling for me to have men around there and when I’m “on” I just don’t want to be intimate. On top of the anxiety of worrying about it as I am heavy is too much for working.
But my god had had my second bout of sickness from taking these tablets. I’m thinking it has to be the period delay tablets. It’s been the second time in 6 months needed to go to use them. And I’ve used them before in previous years now and then so I don’t know why recently they have done this to me. And now knowing it has to be them after this second occurrence. I got a high fever. Fallen to the floor so weak. Clutching my abdominal. Waves of pain. In the most agony I’ve been in my life and I’ve done cosmetic surgery broken bones etc in my past. It’s what I can only imagine contractions to feel like. My friend wanted to take me to A&E. I was literally hugging the floor begging  to have my abdominal cut from me. This has been at the time when the period comes the day or two after taking the last Primulot tablet. Brutal feeling.

My period is on the day I want to tour so I’ve got some norethisterone will it affect my next period or work that come at the same time? I only need to stop it 3 days while touring
