How to spot a timewaster?
« on: 22 September 2014, 11:22:13 am »
Hi,

I've had lots of inquiries on AW and have exchanged lots of emails with potential clients. My question is, at what point do I stop conversing with clients over email and just get the booking confirmed?! They all seem to want to chat!
Another question (sorry) - one potential client knows the area in which I work but has asked me, "where exactly in ***** are you?". Why would I tell him without a confirmed booking - timewaster?
Others seem to want to "get to know me" - I've had a few, "so tell me about yourself" emails....

I'm confused!

I don't see there's any need for more than 2-3 emails, just to establish you do what he's looking for etc.

I'd perhaps give the man who asked exactly where you were a little leeway, as it could be that he lives nearby and is a bit worried about being spotted etc.

But 'Tell me about yourself...' I'd just reply - please refer to my profile!

Do you have much information on your profile? I have every possible question answered on there that someone would need to know and make it clear that I only respond to questions about availability. Also, on my auto reply it states that I won't reply to questions already answered on my profile. I still get them, of course, but I just ignore them and figure if someone is genuine once they get the auto reply they'll read the profile to get the answer they want.

When they ask where exactly you are in the area, they have sometimes been genuine but others I believe live in the area and are just curious as to where the local prossie's based. I think that with me anyway as in my postcode there aren't many WGs as it's a smallish area. In the surrounding postcodes though there are dozens.  I've had a couple even trying to guess which block it might be even though I'd given a landmark so I wouldn't meet someone like that but go with your gut when they ask that as they can be ok.

'Tell me about yourself' I don't bother with. I mean what exactly? I feel like replying with what I do in my spare time, how I found myself recently  ::)

When I get the timewaster vibe, I send them something firm but polite saying 'Please send me your name, address and telephone number with the time you'd like to book for and we can take it from there'.  If they still persit I just say 'OK so what's your address then?'

They normally quit after that.

But then, I do outcalls only.  I know its not so easy with incalls.

I think its much easier to spot them on outcall, they simply don't provide necessary information (however I had one which followed my steps exactly... and then door opened small big who didn't have idea what was going on  ??? But it was on day when I displayed phone number.... never again!)
With in calls I've read on another topic very effective is method "repeat that to me". When you'll give them postcode of where you roughly live ask them to read it back to you. If they were wanking to your voice they'll have no clue.

I think if they ring and ask questions that are on your profile or d they are probably a timewaster. If they can't be bothered to read then what's the chances they can be bothered to turn up. Or they're just ringing every girl whose ad they see.
