How reliable is booking hotels for the day?

I'm thinking of going Independant. I'm really really skint at the moment so if I book a hotel room I would need bookings!! It's a big risk when I'm just starting out.
If I advertise myself on AW and book a hotel for the day what are my chances of getting a booking?

Best thing to do is use the search button, this topic has come up a million and a half times before.  Put in different words to get different results but im sure you will find pages of threads.
