How much cash can you deposit in bank

Done a search but couldn't find anything so apologies if already covered

Just curious how much cash you can deposit into a bank account before its raises suspicions? And does it vary between banks

Also, do banks actually have any right to question on where your money has come from? I'm talking 1-2k so not millions

AFAIK, they're not concerned. They might ask why you're banking cash regularly, but if it's under ?2K a go, I don't see that it's a problem. If you feel self-conscious perhaps divide it between 2-3 different accounts at different banks/building societies?

It's not a great deal I deposit, to be honest I only work to cover bills and have a bit extra for primark sprees and get my cosmetics.

I was just curious bcos I deposited some today and felt like I was getting funny looks, must just be the paranoia! I feel better about it now, thank you :)

Depending on where you bank you can deposit money into a machine or in a deposit envelope and then into one of their deposit slots then you don't have to get any kind of looks!

I bank with Lloyds and this is what I do, I got to the machine and do it! I wish they had those fancy machines in all banks!

as mentioned if you are paying tax it doesnt matter

i deposit about 2500 every 3 weeks never had any issues .  have a good 5 figure balance and never had any questions apart from a year ago when i paid the wrong tax my fault tho nothing with the bank!

When I worked for a bank in Australia the guideline was 10,000 AUD. Anything over this and we had to report it but I think that was more to do with money laundering, drug trafficking, funding terrorism etc. The most my foreign exchange here will let me send home onto my mortgage in Australia each month is 5000 GBP. I think for the same reasons. On HMRC it says they investigate anything over 15,000 euros.

One time about 2 years ago I paid in about ?3000 to Santander and she said she had to ask where I got it from so I told her and it was no problem. Now I don't pay in more than ?1500 and that doesn't get questioned. I would guess there's a starting amount they're told to question though or maybe it depends on the person serving who perhaps thought I looked dodgy.

I got two fake 20's last week. They even had the silver foil on them (but no watermark). I have to deposit because this is my only income. It's annoying to get ripped off by ?40 but not the end of the world.

I'm not willing to closely examine (i.e., hold up to the light or use a marker) the money in front of a client. This is the first time it's happened to me. If it happened a lot I might reconsider my policy.

I have never had a problem with counterfeit notes because once I have counted them in front of the client I then go on to put each one through the UV detector.  8)

Mine came from Maplins, I think. Somebody else bought it for me so I don't know how much it was, but it's as well to have both them and the pens since there's different types of fakes and neither picks up everything :).
