how many neighbours per floor max??
« on: 25 June 2019, 12:28:55 am »
would you consider renting a flat if there's 2-3 flats per floor and one of them is facing your door? as I'm looking for a small 1 bed flat or studio, obviously it will always be in the same floor with at least 1 more flat. By now Iv'e seen some flats that are ideal in terms of area, parking, etc... but I'm worried about being found out by neighbours. It's either 2 or 3 flats per floor (including the one I would take). In the past, I've successfully worked in the same floor where i had one more neighbour and so far i was never found out. But I'm a bit paranoid now. I don't spend my neighbours to have so much free time to spy me through their spy hole or to notice my traffic, but you never know!! I'm not high volume either but still. My question is, how many flats per floor would you accept when you look for a place to live and work? have you had any trouble if there were 3 flats per floor?

I wouldn't rent if a another flat is facing my door. If there's a spyhole even worse.
I've only had flats where I'm the only flat on the floor or one flat is far down the other end and the spyhole doesn't reach me, so can't comment on multiples.

i agree if it wasnt bc i havent found any studio/1 bed flat that is the only one on the floor, otherwise i would definitely take it. I have more viewings this week but i guess its always gonna be 2 or 3 flats per floor unfortunately.

Unless there’s noise the neighbours shouldn’t know how many visitors you have unless they sit at window or spyhole all day.

I agree. Mine is not the only front door on my floor but I suppose I am very fortunate in that all (and it is a small number) my neighbours are at work from early morning until around 6 pm so they will hardly ever get to see my visitors.  Even if they did see the occasional one knocking I doubt it would raise any suspicion as I see unknown people coming and going myself and never question their motives.

Evenings are not a problem either as I have usually finished my bookings long before then.  Without giving more away I think I have just about the perfect setting for doing this work.

It depends if your high volume? I have a flat facing my door and 2 on each side but not had any trouble. I'm Low volume 2/3 max spread out through the day. Most of the neighbours are out at work in the day so they are non the wiser. Also depends on how much noise comes from your flat. I'm quiet as a mouse. I dont think my neighbours even know who lives here. If one day they do decide to ask me I'd say I'm a mortgage broker who works from home so I have people visiting all the time.

It’s not necessarily the person on your floor that could be the problem. It could be the arsehole who’s always at her window and that could be any floor.

I totally agree Lady!....I went to a flat viewing and an old woman had all her body stuck out the top floor window scrutinising everyone going in and out. I crossed it off the list. Thank god she was doing it that day!

I also keep an eye on other flats because the way they behave  impacts on me eg 2 of my buildings had other girls working there, one flat creating disruption. I'd be a fool to ignore them and how they effect me, neighbours were searching for the source of edgy, nervous  streams of blokes going up and down the lifts pumping out fear hormones and it was making them feel justifiably uncomfortable. Plus other dead-give-away incidents. Neighbours are not stupid. The girls were lazy and careless. I need to know if they're making it unworkable.

I am that nosy neighbour. My eyeball will be glued to that keyhole like a chewing gum.

I had a perfect apartment all neighbors out all day no one knew who was going where fantastic.
Then the student on the ground floor finished for the summer and all the mates were around drinking on the front step all summer.

Then a nosy neighbour came out and shouted at a black man coming to visit me insisting on knowing where he was going.

Neighbours can be a problem

I was the perfect neighbour so quiet only worked mon to fri business hours paid rent in advance  but they were hell.

it depend!  i do think that better to be in a building mixed with young...they do not care! if it is more wealthy enviroment maybe could be worst! they will be more careful...families and old people! i am living in a place where people share, so close to mine living 7 people very young student and professional! the only thing that maybe they will be party some times and make more noise than me.

so i am the innocent one in my building!
older maybe they got time to loose with gossip! young care just to have fun!
anyway i thing that there is a number/rule or kind of perfect location!

you must to move and try! if you are low volume and quiet, do not worry too much!
ahah as my client say...maybe a uni student have sex more than you for free! :)

I had a flat in Motherwell total of only six flats and it lasted over a year. Unfortunately the neighbours next door moved out and the new ones who moved in were two men who were constantly at the main entrance smoking and they scared my clients away unintentially.
