How long did it take...
« on: 15 September 2008, 01:46:38 am »
Out of curiosity can anyone tell me how long it took to get the first emails/calls enquiring about them once websites etc first went out.  I'm hoping to launch myself out there either tomorrow or Tuesday and want to know how long i should wait before i start to feel rejected and deeply hurt by all the men out there looking for escorts lol...

I know it will probably take a little bit longer for me to generate any business because i can only offer out calls at the moment, and because im new at this im insisting on all first times being in hotels (im not telling them im new though!!) but it would be nice to know how long it could take.  I think my expectations are that it will take a few days or a week and the enquries will take a while to pick up, is this a fair assumption or am i kidding myself?  could i still be sat here waiting in a month???

I didn't think I could remember, but I wrote in my diary a lot back then! I started like you, outcalls to hotels only. I also had (and still have) a two hour minimum, and higher than average rates for my area.

My site went live on the 21st of November 2004, I submitted it to some sites that hardly brought any traffic. Over the next few days I got a few calls from what I now know were timewasters.
I don't know when I got listed on Punterlink, but the Wayback archive picked up my site on the 27th, so I'll say then or a little before.
My first booking was on the 30th.
On the 16th I saw my first client again.
On the 19th I saw my second client, for an overnight.
On the 20th I saw my third client and learned to be more careful about scheduling around overnights.
Then I left town for Christmas.

The first days are some of the longest you'll ever experience, and once you do start getting calls you'll probably be taken in by timewasters. It's all quite annoying. I hope you don't take things as seriously as I did; I took notes on all the calls I took so I'd be up to speed when my potential clients (who were actually mostly timewasters) called back. That was a big dorky waste of time.

Don't worry too much about hiding the fact that you're new, not so much that you try to blag your way through anyway. I think that can get you into more trouble.

Thanks Anika.

I'm glad you mentioned the new thing, I dont think this is something I will hide from anyone once i meet them but i thought maybe i wouldnt go shouting about it incase it drew in timewasters or men who think I will be a push over to rip off cos im new to it all.  I have tried to write my website to make it sound like i know what im doing (well its true, i do.  i just never asked for money before!! lol) and tried to think of everything I want to say in it so I'm hoping it will be ok.  I have also blagged my way in to various jobs over the years and I've always just acted confident and as if i have known what i was doing and i amazingly get away with it!!! I'm kind of sticking with that tactic in this also... it may be false confidence at first but that's better than none lol.  Having said that I am feeling a lot more confident now that i have chosen to go indie and have had some great advice from people on this site, so much so that i'm going to be ready to start up a week or two earlier than i had thought.

Also, Having done my research it seems like everyone wants client feedback on their sites but do you think it does really make a difference.  Will it make a difference that there is nothing in mine??  I hadn't really given it much thought till tonight.  Maybe i under estimate the male population when it comes to them picking an escort but I cant really imagine most men giving a damn whats written in there???  Only time will tell i guess.

thanks again.

Lexie

p.s im definately not planning to keep a diary of them, this is all hardwork enough as it is without adding even more to the admin side of it!!! I had no idea that becoming an escort would turn me in to a self employed business woman, web designer, photographer (shabby one but still!!) and an accountant.  good job i already have the PA experience to deal with the paperwork really lol

Hi Lexie,

I myself do not offer incalls nor house visits for the first time and I can tell you I have two that werent happy out of all that have emailed me. In my case its a minority so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

A little patience will go a long way ..... but don't get addicted to looking at hotmail/yahoo etc I got a bit like that and its not good as you have your own life as well.

Hi,

I started last week, and this is whats happened to me so far, hope it helps..

I had my first booking the morning after putting my ad on AW, I thought yay, I'm gonna be rich!!! Then a few time wasting emails and nothing much more until I decided to take in-calls and offer 'quickys'  (I love these, in, out, literally  ;) and I'm ?40 or ?50 better off!!) . Anyway, I've had an hours outcall, a quicky and an hours in call in the 6 days I've been working. I have a def booking for tom, and a booking for a fetish thing this week, also have a half hour Sunday, these are all definates. I have another couple in the pipe line also...

OOh and I've got a bloke coming tomorrow I actually fancy  ;D ;D ;D lifes good lol

Hope this gives you some idea,

Mollxx

Never count them as definites until the booking's over and you've got the cash safely in your hand. I've found that there's no such thing as definite in this career until then.

When I first started, I used to make all these bookings and I'd have the money spent in my head before I'd earned it. I suffered a few disappointments, I don't mind telling you.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but it just helps keeps you grounded.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.  I'm almost ready to go except for my photo's which im going to do tonight.

I houseshare at the moment so incalls are a def no no but im aiming to be able to do them after the new year maybe.  i dont fancy the idea of quickies, i remember the girls i used to know who were escorts saying that men were always contacting then asking for discounts and half hour slots etc but they never did it.  i have set my minimum price, if they only want a qucikie they can have it but i'm charging the same regardless.

I think i am quite lucky in that I havent chosen to do this totally out of financial need, if i really wanted to, i have other skills that would get me paid good money.... i just dont want to do any of them right now.  Its alot to do with freeing up some of my time and being able to be flexible with my time that im choosing to escort so that i can study etc.  I also think I will be bloody good at it, i think i probably have the right kind of attitude for it and if not..... i think i will be able to recognise this and get out before any 'damage' is done.

As for clients you fancy.... I never even considered this as a possibility.  I'm just going to assume that everyone is going to be fat and bald and old and maybe even have a hunch back.  I think i prefer it that way.  I dont want men i fancy.....  I'd rather be paid by uglies to spend time with rather than good looking guys... oh my god, is that weird????  great, now the job has turned me in to a weirdo as well and i havent even started properly yet. lol

I  will let you all know how it goes, thanks again

I don't think your weird its more of a case of don't expect mr handsome as it doesn't always happen. Alot are ugly but some are nice and rich its just how it is but never set your standards high otherwise disappointment will arise with regards to how a client looks.

Absolutely you don't have to do quickies and you shouldn't feel you have to. Some people like them, some don't. And you're right, you get the odd gent who wants to pay half an hour's rate for an hour's booking. Some like to take the piss and stretch the booking for as long as they possibly can, even going so far as to withhold cuming. I do sometimes have to keep a firm hand on such bookings. Literally! On one occassion I had to push a gent off of me in midstroke because he wanted to try and cum twice in 30mins and went over time. He'd even brought a bottle of cognac with him, so he definitely came with the notion of staying for longer than he paid for. I find it all fun, but it's not some ladies' cuppa tea.

Best of luck with photos.

Lexie stick with what you're comfortable with  :)

I'm toying with the idea of offering half hour incalls, but I think I'll make the price only about 25% less than 1 hour to encourage them for the hour. I dunno.

Well I'm still waiting for a sign of something genuine, wondering about my rates, pictures.. The more I look around the more I feel amateurish and unprofessional and expensive! But I want to get some money rolling in before I upgrade any advertising or go for a professional shoot and I really don't want to lower my rates below the average agency cost..

I'm getting nothing but time wasters these past 3 days, As I type this I just got a text saying 'What you up to today fancy going to the gym?'  ???

Ok so my site was in production for a few days but I actually just made it accessible on Saturday and my ads started going up that day too, and since then I've now got ads (free ads and hidden away on some but hey!) on 10 different directories. I'm managing my analytics and keep tweaking things/tweaking ads to try and fix the wording up. So I guess I've had 10 or 11 timewaster texts emails calls so far in 3 day,  therefore a real person must be on the way soon!

 xxEv

I did think that might be a problem the first time I saw your site. Your rates are not unreasonable for London, but there are a lot of girls who charge a lot less, so you might need to look more professional if you want to be one of the expensive ones.

The cheapest and easiest way you could improve your image is to register a domain name. When people see sweet-evie.moonfruit.com they know your site is free, and I think if I was looking at high-end escorts that would put me off. Londonevie.com or londonevie.co.uk looks much more professional, and you can get either for less than a tenner.

What Ani-Mae says.
It's difficult to want to charge ?200 for an hour with a free website. Your site and pics need to be a lot more professional-looking than that, especially as a new escort in the current climate.
You can see that you're a gorgeous woman, so I don't doubt that you can charge that in Central London. But your site's got to be more professional-looking than a free moonfruit website if you want to charge ?200 an hour.
What about 69Design? They do pay as you go website for ?30 a month. They're not cheap but I think they're one of the best in the business and they've been going for years: http://www.69design.co.uk/

Agreed :) I lowered my prices a bit, offering half hours and 90 minute sessions and am trying to put on a few clearer photo's now, and have registered www.sweet-evie.com and am updating all my ads etc with that instead of moonfruit.com - Pro session for pictures is on this months to do!

I need to make a bit of money before I can really polish it up, but I do completely agree :)
