Advice regarding London
« on: 17 April 2011, 11:18:45 pm »
Hi, I was escorting up north for about a year and was very successful but now I moved down south recently to be with my bf and  had planned on setting myself up as a working girl in central London. Thing is  I'm starting to get intimidated by all the competition.

So basically I was just wondering how you London ladies find things down there, generally I mean is it hard to become successful, harder than other parts of the country?
I'm a student so escorting is my only form of income, but I would probably be able to work 5 days a week and I'm prepared to put in the hours promoting myself. I'm not really looking to earn loads either just be able to live comfortably. I'm often told I'm pretty (english rose type) but I'm not exactly a stunner, I'm a size 14 as well.
I am really attracted to the idea of living in London its just I don't want to move there and get myself in a financial mess.

If London turns out not to be great I've been thinking about reading or bristol. Anyone have experience of what its like to work in those cities?

Anyway any advice would be awesome. Thanks, Susan xxx

I'm not actually based in london, but do outcalls there, I'm a dress size sixteen and it's never been a problem.  You just have to be honest in your profile/ on your website.  There are clients for every type of woman, and that's the same all over the country.

As to if you'll make enough, it will depend on where abouts in London you'll be living, it is a very expensive place to live, especialy central London. (that's why I moved out to the sticks).  And it's not just rent; travel, food, toilleteries etc.  But London girls charge more, so it kind of balances out.

Would it still be possible for you to work up north for longer bookings only maybe? Just as a bit of income until you establish yourself in London. Depending on quite how far north!

I'm sure you are stunning when you feel stunning :) clients like us ladies in all shapes and sizes. As long as you are happy and comfortable in yourself and feel confident then that's all that matters :).

I would second Jas' advice not to make the mistake of living anywhere too expensive in London, cos as long as you keep costs down and charge an average rate (or more ;)) there's no reason this city should be too much of a challenge if you've already worked really successfully elsewhere!

Travel and eating out can be pricey but you can also be quite frugal if you want/need. For exame, you can go out as much as you like as long as you don't 'need' lots of drinks to sustain you; have a glass of wine before you leave, and then maybe only one or two at the pub/club/restaurant/etc! And it's a good idea to avoid living on your own - sharing with one or two others reduces the cost dramatically (if you want to be within Zone 2 - further out is more affordable so a one-bed place can be more feasible).

I'm a student and I've recently limited my working days to 2(!) with the somewhat surprising result of having a small queue of interested clients wanting to see me on those days, and leaving me free to focus on my bloody endless assignments the other 5 days of the week! Well, 4... cos I take at least one day completely off, too. :D

London is absolutely packed full of prossies and clients, so no point sitting about worrying about the competition (I'd pull my own hair out in panic if I spent my days browsing through all the supermodel-ish profiles!) because all you need to do is set about establishing your unique identity as much as you can. Blog/Twitter/etc help, but mostly just market yourself with confidence cos tons of guys will want to meet you. :)

Yes, the crucial thing in this sort of position is to be able to keep the expenditure down. That's doable, especially if you're not alone, but can require some discipline. If you're not careful, you can end up having to work endless hours to pay someone else's mortgage / lease / staff / sweatshop workers etc etc.

Quite! Think of everything you spend in terms of how many strange men you have to shag to pay for it. ;) Well, try not to think about your rent like that - bit too alarming! But any casual spending, definitely. Put aside money for things you want, wait a month, and then see if you can still afford (and still want) it. Probably completely unnecessary advice since any smart woman in this biz saves first and spends rarely but it's doubly true for London.

Essentially, I think the competition is the least of anyone's problems down here! Reducing outgoings is much more important; you should find that you earn a very decent amount here but when you have to save ?2000+ just to have enough to survive off for one month should something bad happen and you be unable to work (let alone saving for tax, holidays, retirement, pension etc!), it puts things into a more appropriate-for-London perspective.

Just a quick reminder that real agencies don't charge anything up front, but work on a commission-only basis. They also need you a lot more than you need them.

Some will want you to pay for photos, but if so demand copyright on them or say 'no, use these'.
