Honestly most of the staff will be well briefed on what to respond.
If you get any shit off anyone, don't go there again, and post a warning on here.

Last time I went to the clinic, I ended up there as the same time as a dude with alcohol problems who was verbally abusive to everyone there.
So if you're running a clinic and your main focus is sex workers, please get rid of these fuckers before we ask.

What do you girls do about giving them your details?
The last time I went to a gum clinic they wanted to know all my personal details, my doctors details etc. Is this normal?
I'd be fine with giving them all personal details but I don't want it going back to my Dr or any other official or on my Dr's records that I'm a sex worker.

They usually ask you whether you want them to exchange information with your GP. As far as I'm aware they only ever do this when it's relevant, in other words they won't write just because you went, or for any other reason unless they are asked.

The clinic I go to give you a form to fill in, and the contact GP policy/permission is on there. If in any doubt ask them what it all means.

You can give false details, so long as they have a contact method for your results.

In over 20 years of using GUM clinics, 10 as a sex worker I have NEVER received any mail to my address, and they have only ever used the phone number I provided to contact me. As far as I'm aware they have never contacted my GP.

Thanks for your reply. Clinics are new for me, I've only ever went once so wasn't sure what the norm was.

Read everything, ask everything.

It's your right as a patient to know, also don't rely on what's said on forums - it can vary from region to region, and you have know way of knowing whether it's true or not!

I'd advise starting off with a special SW project if there's one near you; I was never asked for my GP details doing this. If not, go to a clinic away from your home town, and give a false name (just make sure you remember it).

I use a fake identity and they know why. (It's because in my home country, should I ever return and want health insurance, I will have to sign a form authorising the disclosure of all of my medical records from my previous doctors. So I don't want the sex work information linked.)

My GUM is brilliant and I get excellent care tailored to my needs. For example, I got pink eye. A normal GP would just say "It will pass. Nothing to do." But because of the potential exposure to chlamydia I need to be swabbed for it. They gave me antibiotics on the spot and swabbed for it no problem. (Not chlamydia, but it must have been a bacteria that responds to that antibiotic so it cleared up immediately.)

I'm considering asking for a prophylactic prescription for oral acyclovir, as well, to prevent the return of cold sores. After all, it's in the interests of public health and buying them privately would be crazy expensive.

You could get a pre-paid certificate, covers you for any prescription.

I looked it up. It could come in handy.

I have ordered it online (one of those sites with an online consultation with a doctor). It's extremely expensive to do that.
