How do you find out what Job Title you put for HMRC?
« on: 23 June 2015, 01:34:43 pm »
Hiya!
I'm so stupid! I applied to HMRC last year and I can't for the life of me remember what job title I put down, I'm about 90% sure it was "Web Cam Performer" but I still have doubts I might have put something else.
How do I go about finding out this information? Or changing it to escort?

I've been sent my letter today the "it's time to complete your tax return" and it's made me wonder what job title I put down lol! Any help would be appreciated. X

I'm pretty sure that you can just put a new job title in when you complete your tax return?

In any case, wouldn't recommend putting escort only because if you had to show your returns for something like a mortgage application and the job description was on there it wouldn't look good. I'm down as an alternative therapist, which is looks better but isn't a lie - I take away stress and soothe my clients haha

Yep I can confirm you can change it same time as you send your return. (Just got my letter too so have my self employment basics booklets out although they are dated 2013.)  I'm down as an adult entertainer, but I'd avoid writting escort down if you rent!

Am currently applying for a morgage and having no problems with the title accept a raised eyebrow. Plus easy to remember as it's true.

I don't rent yet but plan to, so may go with therapist or adult entertainer like you said!

YESS, thanks for starting this thread! I put down escort because I was under the impression nobody sees what you put on, but this will prove troublesome in future when (especially if we leave the EU..) I need to get landlords to trust my scrounging immigrant self. ::) Going to change it to alt. therapist or something, I do psychology so I can just pretend I was some kind of undergrad prodigy (I really am ;) ).

Scrounging immigrant self hahaha, I'm sure you're not :P

Yeah I did think maybe putting escort wasn't the greatest ideas, I'm opting for therapist as well I think, then hopefully expenses can still be the same as if I put escort x

@VictoryRose, A fellow scrounging immigrant here :P, in fact I will be applying to extend my leave to remain next year...

I'm also thinking of putting Adult Entertainer as a job title, hopefully Home Office won't be freaked out by that ::)

I highly doubt they could refuse you on the basis of doing this anyway, unless they pulled some shit about it being an unreliable income? That's what I'm worried about, but my intent is to apply for naturalisation. Good luck on your application.  :-*

They'd need to back that up with something better - all self employment is unreliable income :).

It's worth pointing out that being a sex worker does not preclude you from applying for or getting a mortgage, so having it on your tax return (which nobody is ever likely to need to see if you have proper accounts/proof of income and an accountant who can vouch for you) is nothing to worry about any more than if you were a gardener or a cab driver.

I put down escort years ago and have never had a request for paper work regarding my status. My tax bills etc don't even have my job title on? I leave it all in the hands of an accountant - I recommend an escort specialist - yes they exist!

I'm thinking of getting an accountant who specialises in escorts. Does anyone know of one either online or based in the West Midlands? X

I'd be very wary of anybody claiming to be an 'escort specialist' accountant, purely because there isn't any good reason to make such a claim when the business model is so incredibly simple, unlike an accountant who specialises in large and complex organisations or very niche fields with multiple operations and departments, say.

I don't think I've ever heard anybody say their accountant actually did a better job on their accounts or tax return because they were an 'escort specialist', but I've heard plenty complain of over-hiked rates for the same thing (obviously because our hourly rates mean we all earn a squillion quid a week) and worse, inappropriate, unprofessional and lewd behaviour because, y'know, we have that all the time ::).

Either way, if you're going to go with somebody making such a claim I'd be sure to get some proper recommendations. Don't forget that this person is going to know one hell of a lot about your personal and financial circumstances, and it's imperative that they're both properly qualified and trustworthy.

Now can anybody who just wants to post about finding an accountant please start a Seeking/Offering thread? Do a search first too - there's no shortage of advertisers, although for the reasons I've detailed above, contact them at your own risk.

Ah never thought of it like that! Thanks for that, I'll be very wary of "escort specialist accountants" from now on lol! X

There are a couple on aw offering services I thought about once. I'd be tempted to think they either want to cash in on the extortionate fees attached to anything mildly adult, or more likely they are just guys with calculators want in to get off on meeting/talking to the escort.

I think taxrelief4escorts  .co. uk site had some good info on what to tell hmrc, the pros and cons of putting escort down as occupation, finding an accountant etc. Can't find the thread on here I first found the site on but used to be helpful. Might be worth a look,it also has a list of supposedly escort specialised accountants.
