Hi all,

I am quite a newbie so have some silly questions to ask/post.

How do you check money being given? Do you count it out in front of them? It just seems slightly rude... :S

I usually take it at the start of the booking and discretely check it on my way out of the bedroom to stash it.You may also want to invest in a checking pen so you can see if the notes are fake or not.

I just check it in front of them. People who, for example, work cash registers in the store would count physical money given to them right there and then - I see no reason why I wouldn't do so myself.

I'm the same, this way they can't accuse you of lying if you say your fee's short.

There are some people who go off to count it, but counting it in front of clients definitely has things to recommend it.

A quick reminder that pens / lights catch some fakes but not all - learn what to look for with your eyes and fingers.

Plus while counting it in front of people is a good idea, them knowing where it is afterwards isn't.

I always put on a really serious face, perch my specs on the end of my nose, peer over them and say I need to check they haven't OVER-paid me. They usually burst out laughing.  :)

When I take incalls I bring clients straight upstairs to the bedroom, once I've got the money from them I tell them to make themselves at home and I take it downstairs, count it and give it to my friend who I have in the house for my safety and peace of mind.

On days thay I don't have a friend there I do the same process but instead of passing it to my friend I'll hide it somewhere random and inconspicuous, under the washing machine for example or pushed under the carpet in a room downstairs which they haven't been into or Seen me enter. I always take steps to ensure they dont see where I leave the money, you never know when you're gonna get a "grabber" who thinks they are entitled to their money back for whatever reason whether malicious or just disgruntled with a service provided.

On a documentary I saw that some ladies use a UV light machine to check the legitimacy of the money, I don't know how reliable they are but I intend to look into them as they seem like a good idea. Pens like mentioned above are also supposed to work, whether they do or not I don't know.

With outcalls, buy a handbag with a loud zip and well hidden inside compartments that aren't easily accessible to a potential sneak thief. Have your bag full of make up or whatever, newspaper would work, I know it sounds silly but if he does manage to slide his hand in there you're gonna hear him doing it right away.

Take your bag everywhere with you on outcalls, especially to the loo. Just say you need to touch up your make up or powder your nose if you don't want to give the impression of a paranoid person clutching their bag  ;D

The same, I smile sweetly and say 'I'm just going to check this, I know you'd hate to overpay me'
There's no reason to feel awkward about it xx

I count in front of them - and make it clear on my profile/website that I do this so that we both know it's correct (proves that I'm not about to scam them and pretend they underpaid etc).

I feel - for myself anyway - that it helps to have that brief "businesslike" few mins at the start of the booking so that it clearly and neatly gets the monetary part out of the way before any fun starts.

The way my bedroom is they can see me counting it on my way out so I can't be accused of conning them but I don't stand there counting it out in front of their face if that makes sense.

I just count it in front of them too....I say something like 'sorry I know you'd probably never do anything wrong but im sure you can imagine we meet all kinds of people'. And they're usually really understanding about it.

I count it quickly infront of them. Occasionally I've had overpayments, which I do offer back, sometimes the amount they've counted is under. Checking after they have left is too late. If it's in an envelope I always open and leaf through.

Don't be afraid nor ashamed, they are paying you for a service plain and simple.

I count it; I have no qualms - it's a business transaction.
