Anyone here advertising in the Sport? Any tips, advice, or comments would be helpful. This is new territory for me.

I've never advertised in the Sport but I have heard and read that time and time again you get either a lot of timewasters or guys wanting cheap 15 and 30min quickies, rather than an hour or longer. Your phone will be ringing off the hook, but you need to be prepared to take the rough with the smooth.

I advertised in the Sport briefly last year - they had a special offer on and it seemed like good value, until you consider that my phone never stopped ringing for almost two weeks (I must have taken 100+ calls on the days the ad itself ran) and I got ONE genuine booking out of it - the rest were without exception timewasters and fantasists, or lost interest and hung up as soon as they heard my rates (exactly as Brandy said - it was the 15 minute for 20 quid guys who couldn't be bothered to look at my website even though the address was there - it was a like going back in time!)

I still get them ringing me about once a month to see if I want to advertise again - I have told them in no uncertain terms why I won't be doing so but it doesn't put them off; I dont even answer now (at least they always ring from the same number). There are ladies who advertise there and do fine, I'm sure, but it was no use to me at all and I shudder to think how many genuine calls I missed because of being constantly engaged in stupid conversations with wankers. I wouldn't advertise in the mainstream press again.

Despite having been told repeatedly what they're doing, the Sport are also happy to accept ads from the 'become an escort, it'll only cost you several hundred quid' scammers.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

Yeah, I can well believe that. What do they care, as long as they get paid for the advertising.

I had the Sport call me a couple of weeks ago, trying to promote something new. I can't even remember what it was about now. I'm not in the mood to receive countless phone calls asking me for 15min quickies or "can I have some details please". I've been there and done that with the local papers.

You definitely get a different type of clientele with the Sport as opposed to the internet.

I've been popping an ad in The Sport occasionally for the last 4 months now. I have to say I've had success in the form of about 4-5 really nice, genuine clients. You do have to do quite a lot of work to sift out the genuine few though which makes their ?25 a day, for 25 characters seem quite steep. Here is a list of general assumptions and/or questions guys will make;

Whats the address luv?
When do you close?
I'll be there in 30 minutes...
I want a massage
When are you there next

Many, many withheld numbers, ooh that's expensive do you do half hours.

So, here is how I handled it;

I don't give out location details unless I know someone is on way to definite appointment, but can tell you I'm not too far from town centre, near a main road and there is somewhere easy to park closeby.
I offer flexible appointments, as long as you give plenty of notice and I haven't exceeded max.no. for day.
I already have a booking for this afternoon (if/as appropriate)
I offer an escort service which can incorporate a massage
I'm here all the time, in fact I've worked in xxx for x years advertising mainly on the internet

When they ask for details;

I say my name is xxxx, I'm based in xxxx and have been working as an escort for x years - mainly advertising  on the internet but a friend/client pointed out not everyone knows I am here or has access to the internet.

Do not be phased by their lower rate requests, guys are out there who WILL pay the difference. Do be ready for those who think you are hanging about waiting for business - or working from a hotel room.

All the above indicates that some of the girls will be touring or working for establishments to be sure to explain you are in indie. Quite a few guys told me they don't like 'hotels'.

The guys that go away and look at your site are the most likely to be genuine. It's also amazing how many will say they don't have internet access, then text back later requesting your website address, and then book!

Hope that helps. Oh, and you will get a lot of texts usually from guys at work. I insist they phone otherwise it gets completely out of hand.

Thanks ladies. This helps a lot. I am use to filtering loads of idiots on the phone now, but even as we speak, yesterday alone I had over 100 missed calls, and I began to think, this can't be normal. But now that I know that it is, then I will fix my voice mail accordingly to deal with over flow. I am also using a completely different name and number for The Sport! It is more an experiment to see what will happen.

That's a good idea. I knew of a couple of ladies who even had seperate phones from their internet work ones, so they knew what to expect and what questions to answer. They also had different (lower) rates than that of their website.

Ah, the memories.

Too much hard work for very little reward. As you say, a handful of genuine clients out of dozens, even a hundred phone calls. But I know some ladies don't mind all that. I admire your stamina.

Well, I did the Sport! Bloody Hell! That I must say was quite an experience! I couldn't work like that everyday, but once in a while can be fun. I can also understand why some ladies have had enough of answering the same bloody question all the time. dear god, I started to sound like a parrot. I just changed my phone message and left all info there. It did help. Any suggestions on which other cities to try advertising in? :)
