HMRC and adultwork.
« on: 18 July 2014, 02:32:19 pm »
I apologise if this has already been asked, and I know escorts should pay  their taxes too. I am just starting out and over 2 months I have only had 3 meets with clients. These clients have left me feedback on Adultwork and I am worried thatt th HMRC will look there and find out I am not paying my taxes and I am claiming benefits. I have not decided if to carry on with escorting or not yet. Should I be worried about it, even if I finish with escorting now? Thank you for you advise in advance  :)

HMRC monitor all sorts of advertising forms, for all sorts of businesses and I have heard AW is just one other place.

Basics of the answer to your question is this, those in receipt of means tested benefits have signed an agreement that says you'll advise DWP/Housing benefit/Council tax benefit if your income changes and that is your responsibility. You can still register declare your earnings and probably not be liable for any tax especially if you have some expenses to offset. The benefits system is from what I hear these days and experienced many years ago, very complex and that is one reason I keep well away from it.

You have some months from starting a business to having to declare it to HMRC. It might even be six - their website will say.

You have about two seconds from earning money to needing to declare it to the benefits people. If you're signing on, it should certainly be done on your next visit. Declare it, not least because the consequences of being caught not doing so are awful. If you don't want to say 'well actually it was two months ago I earned this', make it this week.

Could anyone identify you from your AW profile?
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

I'm a verified member on AW and my private pictures show my face. I am thinking of changing my profile to say I am not escorting. I would have to ask people who have given me feedback to remove the feedback if possibe.

AW won't have feedback removed for the sake of it, unless there's a really good reason such as it's putting you in danger and avoiding the benefits people probably doesn't count.

Declaring the couple of hundred pounds - minus expenses might sound a hassle but it's better than ducking and diving and hoping and it's a responsibility you have, and if you have no further plans to work it shouldn't result in any further reductions(from what I remember it's not ? for ??), if you do continue as business builds up you should get to a point where you do not need benefits to survive, can pay your own tax and NI. It's also possible depending on your circumstances and hours worked to claim working tax credits.

Hiya figure what you want to do, as to benefits be EXTREMELY CAREFUL,THEY ARE NOT NICE PEOPLE!!!. You need to declare asap to the dwp. These days they check with a fine tooth comb. Save a bit of money and come off it,( especially if you do not have kids or such) it is more pain than its worth (what they provide peanuts, you can not support yourself , with so much angst, rudeness and aggravation  :FF :FF :-X and absolutely no tangible support. Again if you do not have kids come off it as soon as you can and in the mean time declare your income.

When you sign off finally, declare your self as self employed and depending on what you earn you can get help/part rent and maybe working tax credit (of course declare everything honestly cos they are not kidding around, they even now come to your :) house to check facts !!)  Best of luck  :) :)
