Agencies etc for (all) trans people?
« on: 12 August 2014, 01:06:00 pm »
Hi, I'm looking at possibly moving into agency work for a while after having been independent (I know the downsides, but am having a lot of concerns about physical safety as a trans independent at the moment) and wondered if there are any agencies etc that specialise in trans people (not JUST trans women, though I'm open to any that only have trans women at the moment but would consider a trans man).

Also places to advertise that are open to ALL trans people (other than the obvious like adultwork etc - even adultwork is heavily focused towards women).  Struggling a bit financially as I've had to limit myself to clients who I can be as sure as possible of physical safety with after some nasty shit.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice anyone can give....

Hi,

Sorry I can't help with any suggestions, but I'd caution against entrusting an agency with your safety. They're unlikely to take your safety as seriously as you do, but can greatly reduce admin!

TheChemist - a lot of the trouble i have been having is through people being able to contact me directly (and so make threats etc :S)

Yes, but those are people who you don't want to see, and may not be so nasty when communicating with someone they don't think is trans. (Even if they're just as ignorant with a third party, an agency has a vested interest in making the booking anyway.) Think of it as them screening themselves out, block them and ignore.

They also - presumably! - only have your work contact details, rather than your personal ones.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."
