Help with accountants girlsss
« on: 17 February 2025, 12:45:55 pm »
Hey girls

Is it best to put down what I do or say therapist as I feel escorts get scrutinized a lot by hmrc. Also how do you work it with discretion for clients or do I not have to give any of their details.
I really don't know how to make this easy so any advice would be appreciated ❤️

No, we're not going to give you advice on how to evade tax here - why should other people have to pay your share for you? Any decent accountant will tell you exactly the same thing; they're not going to help you break the law.

As for problems, it depends on how much of a problem you think it'll cause you when you're caught out/reported and have to pay everything HMRC decide you owe plus the associated penalties? Unless you have cast iron records (and falsified ones won't help) they'll make up a figure they think you earned and charge you based on that, so if they think you worked 40 hours a week that's what you'll be billed on and it's up to you to prove you didn't.

Or you could just suck it up and accept your responsibilities like the rest of us (and the people on minimum wage who get theirs taken before they're paid, so don't get a say).

Hey

When I said hide a bit, I meant my rent payment as I pay that cash and can't put through books as would get my landlady into trouble as she doesn't do that legitimately if that makes sense

Everyone approaches this differently but I list sex worker as one of my 3 income sources as can think of no other way to claim for hotels, condoms, advertising, mileage etc and I keep very detailed records of each working day inc actual bookings, cancellations, no shows etc plus how payment per booking was made i.e. cash or bank transfer so HMRC can see the trail should they ever ask to scrutinise my record keeping.

I don't give client details on my accounting records but I list bookings as e.g. "Date / 30 minute incall / X hotel / £X bank transfer" or e.g. "Date /1 hour outcall / postcode / £X cash".

As mentioned the other day in I can't remember which thread, I've always used the annual Tax Relief Diary by Jolyon (published by Lulu) to record all sex work related income and expenditure. This year though I've created my own simple record sheets using the same headings as the Tax Relief diary as couldn't really afford to buy the diary at the start of this tax year.

What HMRC need to see is that you're maintaining accurate business records sensibly with an identifiable trail of relevant spending and income.

Paying expenses in cash doesn't mean you can't record your income; your tenancy agreement should show your rent amount. If it really bothers you then just don't claim rent as an expense?

If your landlady doesn't want to pay her tax that's not your problem - presumably she's an adult and knows the risk she's taking. If it means she gets caught sooner then that's even more reason to do it, but either way that still doesn't stop you declaring (or owing tax on) what you earn, because income and expenses are separate things.

If her landlord isn’t doing it legitimately then there won’t be a tenancy agreement
