How easy is it to find an escort-friendly accountant? Is there anything in particular I should look for, or does anyone have any good recommendations for accountants in London?

Any Accountant should be professional with you. Mine came via recommendation of a close friend who knows what I do for a living, and despite being straight-laced the accountant didn't have any problem going over my books.

I keep getting bombarded with texts from an accountant on AW.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

I've a feeling I know who that might be. Block him and report him for spamming.

I couldn't agree more. It's not necessary or even particularly desirable to find an 'escort friendly' accountant - an individual working for themselves with no employees shouldn't present a challenge to any accountant and if somebody in any role or offering any service which is not unique to this industry seems to be deliberately targetting workers in it than it could well be because they think it's OK to charge us more than other people, behave unprofessionally towards us and so on (it's not guaranteed of course, and some will be fine). You are a business owner seeking a paid professional service and the nature of your business is irrelevant.

Thanks girls! I am tempted just to say I'm a masseuse or a model, just to avoid awkward questions  :-\

I did a standard on-line enquiry form looking for a local accountant and put in the info box "Looking for an open-minded and non-judgemental Accountant for lifestyle business.  Am a sole trader."

I had a couple of replies on the back of that and I think they were more intrigued than anything!  Ended up a with great, if very straight-laced guy who isn't the easiest to have a laugh with, but he knows exactly what I do and therefore advises accordingly and it means I claim the correct expenses and my Asset list was offset for tax purposes.

My fears of telling an Accountant were unfounded and I've saved myself alot more than he charges!

That link was very helpful HoneyB, we submitted our details yesterday and heard back from a very friendly and professional-sounding company first thing this morning - thank you for that!

Hi

just wanted to say that you dont -have- to use an Accountant at all if you dont want to. Lots of us here do our own books and it really isn't half as scary as you think it's going to be. A good Accountant can save you money - but some time on the phone to the very helpful people at HMRC, a bit of googling and asking some questions from other Ladies here on SAAFE can save you even more.

Sorry, you probably all have good reasons for using Accountants and I'm not trying to persuade you otherwise, just putting an alternative view out there!

I'd like to add here that when I had an accountant look at my books, which I'd been doing myself  the money he saved me was several times his actual fees.

I do all my books myself, however there are areas that I wasn't finding so easy, such as assets and capital expenditure (I specialise in subbing and Domming).  Given I've been in the scene for over 25 years (yes I'm old  ;D), I wouldn't have known stuff I brought into the escorting business that I personally owned/used before could be counted for up to the last 7 years.

I also need my accounts audited/signed off because I have a mortgage and may want to move house/change mortgage provider in the future.  No self-cert mortgages available anymore, they went with the crash.  So I have to have an Accountant for that reason alone.

It gives me peace of mind, as well as the knowledge that if I get investigated, I can be confident of everything.  Given the annual cost is less than a 2 hr session, that he sees me when the office is closed or comes to my home and that I just don't have to worry about that stuff, it works for me.  Won't be for everyone and I respect whichever way someone decides to do it.
