Help - Expired Domain Name
« on: 11 July 2009, 05:09:32 pm »
Hi everyone.

I've had a RareEscort website for about 4 years now and I've been very happy with it. On setting it up I paid a little extra for a bespoke name eg.Sophie82.com . I've renewed it bi-annually through  RareEscort.

It was due for renewal at the beginning of the month and I paid RareEscort for a 2 year renewal last month.I've been chasing them for confirmation of renewal and also checking the expiry date by checking who.is.

My website has been down for a week now because they appear to have neglected to renew it. They have refunded my money and told me via email that the domain has expired.

I'm pretty annoyed and upset. My website is now down. All my reviews and advertising were linked to the website.

On checking various whois sites - some show an expiry date of July 2009 and others show an expiry date of July 2010. I don't know why. I've tried to buy the domain name but it's shown as not available for transfer.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do apart from setting up another one ?

A bit late, but this is why registering your domain yourself is the way to go rather than paying someone else to do it.

There's no need to leave it until the last minute to extend the registration, for example, and its bad if they did. I'd be livid.

In many cases, once the official renewal date is passed and it hasn't been renewed, it is not instantly made available for anyone to renew, but it may be more expensive to renew.

Its interesting that it's showing different expiry dates on different whois sites. Do you / whoever still show as the registrant?

It'd help if I knew the actual name in question, so if you can't post it here, can you pm me?

'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

Thanks for replying. I have PMd you the website address.

www.betterwhois.com shows an expiry date of 3 July 2010. However, www.whois.com shows an expiry date of 3 July 2009. I have looked on various whois sites and I'm sure that a couple of others also have an expiry date of 3 July 2010.

Hmm, yes. Changes take some time to be noticed around the net, but I would expect everyone to be singing from the same songsheet by now.

It's noticeable that the registrant details (looks to be a service to hide the details of the real registrant) are the same at both the expires in 2009 and expires in 2010 whois lookups.

So something clearly has gone wrong somewhere in the reregistration, but it's not clear where.

Have you tried contacting resellone.net, who are the registry involved?

The .co.uk version of your .com domain name is available - get it now. (Do it yourself, via someone like 123reg.co.uk)

Does anything show up when you go to your url? I lost one of my secondary domains once and it was snapped up by Domain Kiters. It was annoying, but with good timing and some luck I was able to get it back a couple of weeks after I realised what had happened, without paying the kiters anything. If the expiry date is listed as 5 days or less before this time next year, it's probably kiting. I can tell you how I dealt with it if you like.
