Thinking of starting escort work

Hello ladies,
I found this forum a few days ago and am so glad to join. I'm hoping for a bit of advice about my situation. Basically, I'm in my late thirties and am thinking about trying escorting for the first time. I have no problem with the actual work itself (as long as they're nice!) but I am a little worried about safety. I've read through the excellent advice on the main site but still have a nagging worry about the possibility of being hurt. It goes against all my survival instincts to go into a strange man's house and yet thousands of girls do so with no problem. Am I being paranoid?
Also, am I kidding myself that an ordinary woman of my age can do this? I think I scrub up OK but am certainly no Kate Moss!! Most escort profiles I see seem to be stunningly beautiful girls in their twenties.
So as you can see I'm not sure at the moment whether to take the plunge. I might put an ad on Punternet and see how it goes but if I get a booking I'll be terrified!  I need to try it though...

If you search through the forum you'll see not all of us look like Kate Moss. Men like all different type of women not just the supermodel type. I'm only 5ft and have an alternative look and I've had bookings and men telling me how beautiful I am. Your not paranoid I worried when I started if I would get any bookings. I looked at the very curvy tanned blonde tall women and began to worry.
As for age I've seen profiles on AW with women aged 50-60 so I don't think their is a age limit to be honest.
Everyone is nervous at first even after months/years I suspect. Just trust your gut instinct and do your security checks. Plus you don't have to offer outcalls. You could do incalls at your home/hotel if possible.
I'd go for it put an add up see how it goes :)

Yes, there are people successfully escorting at your age and beyond - not everyone wants a 20 year old Barbie clone!

Having said that, it can be a tough market to enter, especially if you only do outcalls. But doing incalls has big privacy issues if you do them from home or adds to your costs if you don't.

It's impossible to tell how you will do: someone I know who started last year quit because they were almost doing it for free after paying for somewhere. I thought they would have clients queuing out the door...

Thankyou both, it's reassurring to hear that it's not just a young girl's game and that people of all ages, shapes and sizes can make it work. :)
I have to do outcalls because I live with hubby and don't want to spend money on a flat until I've tested my popularity as it were! Also I think it might be safer to visit them in hotels because they will usually have paid with a credit card so their identity will be known. I also plan on asking them for their full name and address so I can do my own checks. Are they usually OK to give that info?

If you are visiting at hotel you shouldn't be asking for home address.  This info is just for Outcalls to homes.

(The idea being that if you kick up a fuss in a hotel, someone will notice = more safety than an outcall to a house. You still want to check that someone is indeed at a hotel before you trek out to it, but a search here will find plenty on hotel outcalls.)

I would like to add that you cannot test your popularity only with outcalls to be honest. if you are just starting why not rent a room in a hotel for 1-2 days and advertise incalls and also advertise outcalls and then you see which is working for you?
maybe both work for you, maybe only one. testing that way you get a full picture.

A little addendum to the post above.  Always book a hotel through the advance booking system (so that you can cancel on the day and make sure it is cancellable ON THE DAY as not all hotels are the same with advance booking system) so that if you don't get any bookings you can cancel and it isn't costing you anything.
