googling of phone numbers?
« on: 03 May 2011, 12:10:57 am »
Hello girls!

I've been through the ads and changed the number to my new work phone but does anyone know how long it will take for google to update the cached sites?  A couple of days?  A week?!  How common is the google-ing of phone numbers anyway?

It depends how often the site is updated, and maybe some other things. I'm afraid it's going to take a while before those pages stop turning up in searches, because even after the search spiders visit again and update google's info, it'll keep the old data indexed for a while so it'll still come up in searches. I'm guessing that your number will produce results until the spiders have been there twice and not found it.

I don't think it's something you need to worry about though unless you know some pretty stalkery people. I sometimes google a number to see if I can find out anything about someone who's contacted me, but I don't see why I'd do it with someone I know unless I was trying to work out what they were up to. Plus it's your old number which presumably most of your friends and family don't even have any more.

If you're still worried, you could try flooding the results by using that number in classified ads and anything else you can think of, in the hope of pushing down the old pages further than someone would look. That also gives you a possible get-out of "this crazy girl wanted to buy some shoes from me but I'd already sold them, so she put my phone number on all these weird sites. Joke's on her though, since it's just my secondary phone. I just get a few weird calls sometimes when I'm having a clearout!"

Or you sold the phone / SIM somewhere.

I did not read all the comments here  -
Google caching can last as long as 6 months - but never longer than 3 months .

In the United states - googling of numbers is HUGE . I dont see why it would be different anywhere else -
I know ladies in Canada google to death as well .

I thought you could send a request Google to remove cached content? I might be wrong...

Searching came up with this page?

I've made a request to google to update the search result and remove the word (or number).  This means that even though the URL will still appear until recaching takes place, the snippets will not.  As soon as they have deleted the snippets I will just delete the ads.

If it's still easy to find I'll get onto the webmaster of the sites and make a request to google to remove the entire page from the cache, but you have to make sure the page gives a 404 error before they will do that!

I think you're talking about escorts googling their callers' numbers. This isn't what Evie's asking about, she's worried that her family might google her old number that (as far as they know) she doesn't use any more, which is pretty unlikely.

evie, I had exactly the same problem. Not with a family member but a "friend". So I had to delete one of my websites but it was "cached" everywere. So went thru the "google" application and asked for my cache to be removed. It took 5 days. after that my website and old cache -with the evidence- was gone. I think you just have to follow the steps correctly. Also from what I've been told websites were the dominion is not under your name take more time to remove. meaning: some cache is easier to remove than other I guess. just google "how to remove cache" and follow the instructions. That's what I did. Ultimately if you get "caught" deny deny deny. just say that your flat mate did massage and you sold her the phone and got payed for the modeling bla bla bla. you're an adult, they're not paying your bills and what you do is  ultimately none of their business.

Well I've deleted all my ads and had the cache removed

Now I just have to wait for the google spiders to get rid of the old cached results.

i just googled  my old number that i havnt used for at least 2 years and my old website comes up even though i dont use that website or domain name anymore and its been sold on
its just that the number is listed on a few other obscure  escort directorys sites that have my photos  on it
