Differences between agency and independent clients
« on: 24 August 2016, 07:53:38 pm »
Hi everyone

I'm a newbie in the process of joining an agency at the moment. I've been reading the forum for a while now and I know most people on here are totally against the idea of agencies. However as I'm just getting started and plan on charging a higher rate (?300 +) with a low amount of clients I figure this is the best option for me  :)

What I did want to know was if any current or ex agency workers notice a difference in the type of client when charging at a higher rate via an agency vs a lower rate independently?

I know all men can essentially be arseh*les but having worked in strip clubs before I know that clientele can differ depending on the pricing so was wondering if it was the same for this industry.

I can't speak from experience, but if you want to earn 300 quid an hour, then the agency is presumably going to be charging at least 400. My guess is in central London it would be wealthy international businessmen, arabs etc.

Maybe someone who's been there can chip in, but I wonder if you might be at more risk of boundary pushers at these prices?

There's two different questions here Sammi - not all agencies charge high rates, and not all independents charge low ones.

Are you asking about punters who specifically want to pay high fees or punter who use agencies rather than independents, or both?

Hi Kay

Yes that's what I was thinking with boundary pushers

Hi Amy

Yes I should have specified, I'm mainly asking about agencies charging ?300+. Not assuming all independents charge lower fees but from what I've seen most charge a little lower,  maybe due to not handing a cut over to the agency. So I'm looking both, whether you advertise via an agency or independently.

The pros of being indie is you speak to the guy and you can go of your gut feeling about whether you want to see him and also check numbers here and on UM. I don't and wouldn't trust anyone to field my calls

I think the main difference isn't the clients as such, more that the agency will likely send you out to any old Tom, Dick or Harry whereas talking to them yourselves will allow you the choice whether to see them or not.

I've never worked as an independent nor at a lower rate but the impression I get is that the main difference is in the quantity of clients. If you find a good agency (which is a very difficult feat) then they WILL do security checks and won't force you to take every booking. However in your market there's much fewer clients so you certainly won't have as many bookings as the average-priced independent. There are rude and nasty clients as well as perfectly lovely ones at every price point, price is not an indicator of client quality. Since you're just starting please exercise every caution in choosing an agency (if you really can't go independent). I'd also recommend you choose an old, established agency so you'll have access to their regulars.

Well from my experience you can meet rich man, willing to pay 300+  who are kind of rude, too much demanding and treating you without much respect because they paid alot and have money. Of course you can meet nice rich man but the point is that you can meet very sweet and very nasty guys from any class of the society. I don't think the price matters that much. In fact being indie actually helps you to meet more polite and respectful man as you can talk to them and make your own security checkings. And as Independent you can charge 300 as well. Plus if the agency charges 300 you won't take 300.
