For those who've worked in a parlour/brothel
« on: 05 February 2009, 01:22:33 pm »
Hello! I'm a 19 yo Aussie, and I'm getting back into sex work after a year of trying "normal" work.

Id like to be independent eventually, but presently I'm most familiar with the brothel environment, so I'm just gonna stick with that again for a little while.

OK, so, my question is, do you ladies have any advice, tips, tricks, in regard to keeping yourself together in regard to hair and make up?

I used to have to reapply running down the hall after seeing my clients out.  My last place of work used to keep me on a conveyor belt, and expected me to constantly look "fresh" after hours of

client interview,
get picked,
see client,
shower,
see client out, and repeat.

I have moved cities, and I don't know if the establishment I'm going to this time will be the same, but some time savers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Rose and welcome!

I'll admit I've never worked parlour, but IME, clients do not like ladies to wear a lot of makeup - I wear very little as I find it very transferable and even a tiny smear (on a shirt for example) is extremely hard to get off and even harder to explain (likewise lipstick, etc etc). I wear a little bit of concealer, waterproof mascara/eyebrow stuff and a bit of very light lipstain (Benefit stuff is good) and that's it - I'm nearly twice your age - I can't imagine that you would need tons of makeup at 19!

I would advise keeping it simple - same with hair; an elaborate style is going to look more of a mess more quickly than something simple which you can maintain easily. Mine is very long and I have to keep it tied back - if clients want me to let it down I do, but they usually regret it (constant mouthfuls of it are pretty annoying).

Hope this helps! If it makes any difference, (and it depends wher you are and where you are working) I think most decent places give you enough time between clients to sort yourself out, even when it's busy. After all, if all the girls look grubby and knackered it doesn't take long for word to spread!

Hey Rose,
Welcome from me too.

When you say Aussie are actually still living and working there? I'm just asking because it it really interesting to get the opinions and hear about the ways things work in the industry from different countries and cultures.

As for palour work, I haven't done it either, but would second Amy regarding keeping it simple, I generally use a light dusting of face powder and some lipgloss, occaisionally foundation. I think having healthy looking hydrated skin and a nice smile go much further than a tonne of make up.

Thank you for all the replies ladies!  Im so glad for the affirmation of a natural look.  I much prefer working with that, but some brothels have a "lingerie and stacked heels 6" or more" policy, which I despise.

To answer your question Cassie, I still live in Australia.  I started this industry a few months after a turned 18, and did it for the majority of 07 in Sydney.  I now live in Melbourne, and honestly, until I join the Army at the end of the year, there is no job Id rather have than being an "escort". (can I say hooker/whore in this forum?)

I was soooo super ecstatic to find this website.  I searched for ages to find anything like it, but alas, nothing. :(

And very little Australian based.

Hello Rose,
Welcome along.
I cut my hair recently as everytime I would leave a booking I would head home looking like I had been dragged through a hedge backwards and it was tough to explain it - it's not always windy and/or raining!
My hair grows very fast and is already out of it's style and getting longer but it's a lot easier to manage this way.
I don't wear a lot of makeup either unless asked to. I am old enough to be your mother (shit, I really am!) and I get away with it and I agree with top post, you don't need a lot at your fresh faced age (can you hear my wail of pain all the way over there?)

I would do myself an injury if I wore those shoes and oddly a lot of my clients are actually my height or shorter so I whip them off pretty fast or not even bother to put them on at all if it's an incall and I have seen the guy before!

Dear God I would scare the hell out of some poor guy if I wore 6" heels! I am 6ft tall in stocking-feet! He would faint, wet himself, run, or all of the above!
You will be fine at 19, try a good quality mineral powder (Mac makes a very good one, offers great coverage, and goes on with a few pats of the puff, which is built in to the top), Lancome juicy tubes lip gloss (very shiny, and a great assortment of flavors), Smash Box-BIONIC MASCARA, which can be reapplied over the first coat. Penultimate Eye Liner, by Mac ( or something similar, pencil type liner goes on in a quick stroke, and is done)
Good Luck and keep us posted on how it all goes.

Hey girls!

Barely put make up on, can NOT be arsed, but will for fun if things are slow.  Chopped all of my dead hair off and gave up on straightening it, blow drying it.

I figured to just line my upper lashes with black kohl, so they look thick but im not dealing with inconvenient waterproof mascara, little bit of peachy bronzer on my cheeks and lids, and Palmers cocoa butterlip balm. And my spectacles :D

Bloody librarian look...I thought it was a myth?!

Hi Red Rose,
No amount of waterproof anything stops smudges for me!
It's a pain in the ass so the result is I wear basic makeup as otherwise I can even just be sat here and the stuff with smudge - I don't need to be doing anything at all!
I looked into that semi-permanent makeup a while ago and have to say that could be an option for my eyes as eyeliner, if I pay for a cheap eyeliner or go right up the top scale and pay silly money for one, no matter what the claims are, it will smudge on me.
I look like I have not slept as it all gets under my eyes in a matter of an hour. I hate it.

The semi permanent stuff is not cheap but I have been seriously considering it as summer comes and it gets warmer out (we hope!) Just the eyeliner, I think it would be lovely. I saw the woman that does it and she has it done herself, it looks brilliant.

I tell you something - there is money to be made in this gel nails and semi permanent makeup thing. No matter what the econemy is doing, women are still paying for this stuff.
Online, a course for the nails is 400.00 all equipment in as well.
I thought my eldest was going in for this, till she fixed a car the other day and has now gone all mechanic on me!
I might train up  in it all and have a little sideline going here - nails and semi permanent makeup!

But what if a client left after a blow job and he bumped in to his wife on the driveway as she showed up early for her manicure!!!!   ;D  Id pay to see that fight actually!

Its a good idea though, women who have their nails etc will cut out on eating for a weekend if it means maintaining them.  I have naturally long nails so dont need them but the make up thing sounds like a good idea.  I used to dye my eyelashes so i didnt need mascara all the time but havent done it for ages, i might start again.

Can i ask why you would want to go independent when you live in a place that offers legal brothel work?  I understand that they cant always be great places to work but i cant help think that if i had the legal option of working in a safe environment i would snap it up.  Obviously there would be crappy houses and good houses.

I know the good things about indie work (but i know it can be hard work) and im about to embark on UK parlour work (so i will hold out on good/bad comments about that) but from what i can see on line, if i had the same options of parlours that you have in Aus i would pick that any time.  I know you pay fees but there are benefits to.  Security, marketing, shifts that you can work etc.  i wish we had the same legalalities here.  is indie work legal in Aus?

For me, if it was legal, i would know that every day i went to work i could feel safer knowing there were people around.  I could possible set my hours rather than having to be 'on call' and i would hope that the costs involved would include my bedding laundry, toiletries, condoms and the security that if someone was a complete C**t there would be someone to help me out.

When i look at sydney and melbourne and even german brothel websites i totally think thats the way the UK should go.  its safer and, yes, there will be the politics between girls but that can be over come.

As an aus who has all of this legally available, what makes you prefer the indie option?  and again... is that legal in aus?  I know brothels are but i dont know about indie.  intresting if it is legal to think that even with that option us indie uk girls still might work indie.

I can's speak for Rose, but I read the blog of an an Australian who's done both, depending on where she is in her life. Brothels provide structure and a fast buck, indie allows her to do things on her own terms and provide the kind of service that really appeals to her.

I haven't worked in a brothel, but I've done the strip club thing which is legal and regulated here. There were things about it that I liked, but being indie is so much better. I don't mind being on-call (since I can always say no if I don't feel like it), and after knowing the stress of working shifts with nothing to show for it at the end, I find it very relaxing to be able to go to work knowing that I'll work a couple of hours, get a nice stack and go home. The free time is also great, I like lots of time to myself.

And don't forget NO BOSS! NO BOSS!

(The style of the bookings is clearly different too, but I don't have the experience there to compare.)

I have wondered about palours and agencies, it would take the hassle out of advertising and trying to understand all the SEO stuff, etc. and originally I wanted to work through an agency.

Now having started out as indie I don't think I could go and work in a parlour, it's the thought of not being able to decide whom I see, when I see them and if I want to work.

Each area has it's merits and I am currently toying with joining an agency, but staying indie. Then I can still say no if I don't want to take the job, but having worked for an agency before (home care not escorting and only part time) I know I would let myself be coerced into doing more and stuff I don't want to, because I don't want to let them down.

So indie is the way for me - as Anika said: NO BOSS - I love that aspect so much.

On the topic of mascara - I just started using L'Oreal Beauty Tubes and it's so great - I have oily skin and my mascara, even waterproof, would always smudge a lot, but this stuff forms a tube around the lashes.  You remove them with warm water, the heat makes them slide off, you can see the tubes in the sink! sounds wierd, but I love it.  I do find though if you wear it a long time, eventually the tubes do start coming off if you rub your eyes a lot, etc. but at least they come off individually.

On the Australia topic - I wonder could a woman work at a brothel using a holiday maker visa? Cause I had been considering going there before I'm 30 using that visa.

its a legal profession so i expect they would want you to have a working visa.  you can get 12 month visas up to 32 im sure.  its actually dead easy to get a visa for aus, google emigrating to australia and it will give you the list of requirements.  im pretty sure (could be wrong, a long time since i was there but..) many of them treat the business very ligitimately so im not sure if they would want 'illegal's' there.  but if you google brothels in the area you want to go to you could always email them first and ask.  some of them are just ammmmazzzzing!  like this one http://www.stiletto.net.au/
