Make sure you check client eye. Don't give him the hotel room number or apartment number until he is in the postcode/at the hotel. Don't keep your money where he can see it. Most men don't want drama any more than we do

As posted elsewhere, can we keep the promotion of this app to their advertising thread please? The OP hasn't said she's working from a hotel either ???

Do you have a friend that you can text at the start of bookings in front of the punter?.That way it's clear that somebody knows what's happening and is expecting to hear from you :)

Otherwise, the usual safety basics apply; I don't wear anything loose like jewellery or clothing that I can't step out of, I don't leave punters alone in my flat, all bags have to be left near the door and not brought in the room and I make sure my personal belongings are out of the way. I would also suggest not seeing anybody who has been drinking or is high, but everybody is different and others don't mind; I don't let anybody come back in if they've left either; if they 'need to make a phone call' they can do it in the hallway.

Above all, if you don't feel right about somebody who books, just cancel. You don't need a reason and your gut instinct will never be wrong :)

I always worked alone and honestly i prefer 100%… first i found a comfortable city that i consider safe and could make regular clients, i i dont tour so basically my safety is based on client eye and a huge camera in front of my door, money i have my secret place to hide as well, receive the cash, go keep in your place always closing the doors and if you prefer pretend has someone with you, with some music playing in another room etc, never allow clients walk through your house. After while you will get confidence and probably will prefer work alone also, easier to control who are coming to your place and have your own routine :)

Hi there,

Always be confident, super confident. Any chunks in your armour will be honed in on. Be assertive. Be wary of calkers asked what time you finish. Always hide your cash - different places - be creative with this... inside cushion covers or the gem of the curtains are golden...

Check numbers, client eye or NUM have a number checker system.

Sign up to National Ugly Mugs and set alerts for the area you are in.

Don't drink or party with strangers.

Use bank transfer as much as your situation dictates.

Don't ever be afraid of your callers.

Call a buddy in front of your client when he's arrived  - most decent clients understand.

If you feel threatened,  call the police ALWAYS, always.

Let your clients know you're established.

I hope this helps.

Solid advice, Alex. I would just add that bank transfers can be disputed, so it's something to keep in mind.

I can't agree that posting the places where you hide your money alongside your work name on a public message board is solid advice, but I agree about the bank transfers and I don't take them.

I do realise I'm fortunate enough to live in a city centre with plenty of banks and Post Offices, though :)
