Financial misconduct voicemail scam
« on: 03 February 2025, 08:01:55 pm »
Has anyone else been left a voicemail message where a robotic sounding voice says that you are being investigated for financial misconduct and that if you don’t respond, further action will be taken? I’m 99% sure it’s a scam as I have an accountant and run all my work through my books however just wanted to see if anyone has received this?

Also posting as a warning to not give any of your details over to the person calling.

Thanks in advance x

I get calls from "HMRC" to tell me "I'm being investigated" and I need to get back to them asap or "I'll be arrested". I also get calls regarding a "car accident I've been involved in (never been involved in one) and how to "claim money". Nowadays our personal phone numbers gets sold to third parties all the time so scam calls have become the norm. A wealthy client of mine had someone calling him with the AI of his son telling him he was involved "in a car accident and needed money as his wallet had been lost". These fuckers scammers are getting savvier by the minute.

Block block block.

I had one last week, first by text with a link and number to follow or call then a phone call a few days later.
It was a company called Advantis, stoke on trent and claiming to be DVLA related.
Research led me to discover that they are a legitimate debt recovery firm who work for DVLA, HMRC etc
BUT the 2 numbers the scammers are using are not the company numbers, they are stoke on treat numbers but the last 4 digits are different.
It's a clever one though as an initial Google search will bring up all the correct company details.
I called the DVLA and had them check over all my details as I knew I had nothing outstanding and I was all clear.

I used to often get calls like this. Fortunately now, my android phone, more often than not, red flags incoming suspect calls. A voicemail (or any form of communication) of such threatening nature would leave me highly suspect... I would just ignore. Scammers prey on fear.
I have an EpiPen. My friend gave it to me when she was dying, it seemed very important to her that I have it.

I get the same ones from HMRC. I panicked at first, and got really upset, but then I realised it was all a bloody scam.  :-X
