I worked in the jewellery trade and been a pawn broker and the amount of fakes for sale on the street to gullible people who then brought their 'gold ring' in for a valuation or to sell only to be told all they have is a worthless piece of tat or a best a bit of costume jewellery was quite sad. These pieces are not assayed or they have 18k stamped in them the explanation being they are 'family pieces' or brought in from the continent etc but in truth they are fake.
Does it have an assay mark inside it?

Even real gold or silver is worth very little.

Yes I am aware of that, hence my comments regarding my own experience of selling jewellery. It was many years ago when I fell upon hard times and needing a little extra cash.

Gold and silver is bought for scrap value.

If you have scrap gold broken bits and pieces its brought for scrap if you have nice pieces its worth more than scrap price.

just curious why you did not ask him for the fee at the beginning of the booking is that not what we should all do to avoid such a situation.

And this is why we get cash up front so this doesn't happen! A lesson learned I hope.

He's an arsehole, for all he knows the money from his booking could have been needed to feed kids or pay electric bill before it gets cut off. It doesn't matter if it was a mistake he forgot the money or not, he has treated you badly and deserves to have his poxy ring sold. I'd attempt to sell it and suck up any losses and cut off contact with him. For all you know he is getting off on sending you lies about where he is and begging you not to sell it.

I saw a client last night who seen me before and he left a expensive ring here as my guarantee. I told him if he doesn't come to pay me he was due tonight I will cash it in at cash converters.

Well guess what he can't make it but he says please don't cash it in. My patience are running low it was a 2000Euro ring.

I told him the extra would be added interest for being dishonest. it has a few diamonds in.

I extended until Saturday as he is paying me for a 90 minute booking too coming for. This was what was agreed.

Am I being too soft for extending for him to be honest to pay me? What would you do?.

Haven't read through the comments so not sure if it has been brought up, but are you sure the ring is actually worth what you believe it to be? Unfortunately, I cant tell the difference between a real diamond and a delmonti lol

I don't think anyone has been squabbling.You started a thread,people commented,that's what happens on a forum.
Personally I think it is up to us as individuals how we conduct our business but for new people starting in the business, this is not a good example of how to go about things.
If you want to have potentially done a booking for free then that is up to you.
Personally I wouldn't accept a ring that might not even be his to use as a deposit when you don't know for sure what it is worth.
It could even have been reported as stolen for all you know.
I really hope it pans out for you and that you don't go to sell it to then find out not only is it worth sod all but that the police have been called as it was from a robbery a few weeks ago.

I'm going to read back. But I guess this is another lesson learnt, never trust a client. I learnt the hard way too x

I got the impression you wanted to keep his ring, I didn't realise you classed him as a good regular.
