Sore/itching
« on: 20 August 2024, 02:18:01 am »
The last couple of days I've been feeling sore and itchy just around the rim/opening of my vag.

Anyone got any thoughts on what it could be and treatment please, before I have to go down the doctors route?

I did an STI test a couple of days ago so hoping it'll pick anything up there if there's a problem

It sounds like thrush (although I’m no expert).

You can buy over the counter Canestan products or order online. I prefer the internal cream and external cream combo pack but there is also the option of a normal pessary or a gel pessary. (They are all sold as duo packs with the external cream as well now, to my knowledge).

I always carry a spare as I tour.

Good luck x

There is a generic tablet form called Flucanazol, available over the counter at most chemists, half the price of Canastan and works just as well IMO.
Also Boots own BV Gel, 7 small tubes per box, use one overnight I find helps when I'm a little sore.

When I had this it turned out to be latex sensitivity, and settled down once I switched condom brands (and I was desperate after the first booking of the day was making me feel completely red raw and I'd have another three or four to do).

Definitely do a thrush treatment just to be on the safe side, but if you use latex condoms maybe try some different ones? :)

I was on heavy dose of antibiotics for tonsilitis . I had terrible thrush. Canesten cream didn't work. It was so sore and itchy and swollen. Went down STD clinic and had std all clear. They recommended live yogurt inserting overnight for a few nights.  The antibiotics were causing the thrush. The live yogurt cleared it all up.

If i ever get a bit f thrush coming on i use live yogurt in night, insert with a glove/ tampon.

Try Canesten cream for say three days. If no joy then must be thrush..

So I get major beard rash down there because of stubble or people who haven't shaved well. Only had to happen once for me to figure out what it was thankfully so I know to avoid it better. It might not be that but its just something to consider!! For now I would maybe use a very very light bit of petroleum jelly just on the outside. I don't think its always recommended near the entrance but it helps if it hurts when you walk a little it stops the chaffing at least and it aids in healing too. It helps in an emergency and you need a bit of relief but I would head to the docs for a better assessment x
