Doing escorting officially and self employed
« on: 23 October 2018, 03:14:30 pm »
I know there’s numerous threads around going self employed but I can’t find what I need.

Basically I work PT in a regular job and then escort through an agency one day a week- due to only doing one day I don’t and can’t rely on that income only as it differs so much.

I’m having trouble in my regular job and have been looking at getting another job which is proving hard due to family commitments and school runs etc and no childcare so I’ve been thinking about going self employed and purely working as an escort. I don’t want to do it FT, PT is ideal for me due to childcare etc but I have a big family and I’m scared. I was thinking about going self employed and declaring I work 16-20 hrs per week as that’s all I could realistically do atm would I still be able to claim tax credits? To fully support all my bills I’d need to be earning £3k a month after tax and that isn’t doable for me atm.

Do I need to have wage slips to myself and do people honestly declare every penny or do you just put so much through and pocket the rest?

Also my partner has said I can use his flat for incalls which is better for me but it’s rented. Can I claim for that in tax purposes or not as I’ll be paying him a rent to use it xx

I think the main issue is claiming benefits and working, because you'll never know how much you're going to make, though I don't know anything about tax credits.

I declare absolutely everything, both in terms of income and outgoings that are claimable expenses, i.e. a portion of utility bills etc., condoms, makeup, stockings, mobile and so on. You'd be able to claim any rent you paid your boyfriend if it was purely for work purposes.

I'm not going to ask how you have £3k+ in monthly expenses, but is there any way you could bring that down??

You do have a few months' grace before you need to declare yourself as self-employed, so you could always try it for three months and see how it goes?

I have a VERY large family and house to run, clubs etc, a pet and debt. I rely heavily on tax credits to survive atm x

Yes, do. Preferably one that can give you good financial/tax advice too, not one that just does your tax returns. Mine was brilliant, I'd PM you his details but he is now retired. I do everything myself now but didn't have a scooby before I met him.

I have an EpiPen. My friend gave it to me when she was dying, it seemed very important to her that I have it.

Yes, get an accountant and also try to have a word with the companies that you have the debt with.
They can be quite understanding and can maybe reduce payments, freeze interest etc.
You can get advice online about debts but make sure it is a Government website and not some greedy private dodgy company that will exploit you.

First thing to do is register as self employed.

Then enquire about a debt relief order if in Scotland or IVA in England.

That will then mean you pay on average 20% of the debt over about 5 years.

Everything else written off.

That can include income tax debts and council tax arrears.

Thanks for the concern ladies but my debt is affordable and includes my car so I can’t write it off as I’ll have no transport. The main outgoings are my children as like I said, I have quite a few and their clubs/clothes etc that go with it plus living expenses/ rent etc xx

I have to make roughly the same a month. Kids are expensive and I don't even drive lol. Plus I want to have money left over at the month for whatever.  Oh, the joys of living in London and forking out over a grand alone on rent and council tax.
Anyway, I digress.

You have 3 months to register as SE. The only thing I would suggest is to consider this carefully. You say at the moment you cannot work more hours because of childcare, you will still have this issue and at the moment you do have an income. There's no specific pattern time wise punters want to see us. And depending on how saturated your area is, work might be very slim.

Although I do really well with this I also have a civvy job just to ensure that I keep my head above water especially as I don't fuck when I am menstruating so this limits me to basically oral. Plus it's coming to Christmas and some punters start to tighten their belts a bit.

Are you sure you are getting everything that you are entitled to benefit wise? There are a couple of calculators online that give you a good indication. You have put in a council tax single adult discount? Getting assistance with childcare either through Tax credits or some employers do a salary sacrifice scheme.

Also look to see if you are in a Universal Credit area. If you are as soon as you declare any changes you will be switched over, which will leave you with nothing for at least 5 weeks.
