Touring London
« on: 08 July 2015, 01:55:34 pm »
Hi peeps!

Work has been shockingly slow this last couple of weeks for me, possibly due to not being the new guy in town any more, so I'm thinking of heading down to london next weekend. I just want some advice on touring as I've not done it before and the only time I ever go to London is just passing through.

-Is London a good choice for a weekend or would somewhere else be better? (I'm in the NW)
-Which area is best to go to? It's a pretty big place and I've no idea.
-can anyone recommend a half decent cheap hotel?
-Any other advice for me?

Thanks :)

Scott, have you read the (lengthy) Touring article on the main SAAFE site?

London is an expensive place to visit, but lucrative if you get it right :). We don't post hotel names on the public board here, but even if we could there are thousands to choose from - can you narrow it down to your area and budget? For example, if you're coming from the NW and travelling by train you'll more than likely be arriving at Euston - do you want to stay around there or go a bit further afield?

I will say that IME London is better on weekdays, but my view is likely to be a bit skewed since if I'm there on a Saturday or Sunday I'm normally either arriving or leaving.

No I hadn't, I've read other bits on there but as toruing wasn't relevant to me at the time of reading I didn't bother with it, just had a read of it now though and it's made things a bit clearer for me. Thanks forthe suggestions :)

As for advertising (something i forgot to put in the op), how far in advance would you normally advertise your tour dates? I was thinking a week or so, would 9 days be too much or about right?

Thanks Amy :)

I will bow to others' greater knowledge on this, but I get the impression that on Sundays especially you might do better on the outskirts of London rather than in the centre, i.e. close to the M25 - places like Kent and Essex?
