Title: Double Booking Dilema
Post by: Adele7 on 25 April 2017, 12:28:07 pm
Hi Ladies,

Really infuriated at the moment. Had 3 no shows before 12 and l'm sure I could have had another 2 clients.

I am thinking of just double booking and first come first served. How do you ladies deal with this?

You could tell them to either confirm again by a certain time or tell them you don't take advance bookings and they can call when they're in the area?

I get them to confirm. So if they book the day before for a morning/early afternoon appointment then I ask them to text me to confirm between 8am and 10am.If it's same day but they have booked for a late afternoon/early evening appointment then I get them to confirm an hour before or when they tell me they would be setting off to get to me.

Similar.
Except for short notice bookings, they all must confirm 1hour- 30 min before. Regardless BR or not. If they don't, I just assume they cancel.

I double and triple book some times no harm in that or be trapped in with no shows loosing money. Like you after a string of no shows they leave me no choice. That is when I take charge thinking enough is enough.

Rather than double book, I say to the person asking about the unavailable appointment "I'm booked then but I haven't seen this person before, would you like me to contact you if they cancel or don't show?"

Sometimes they say no, sometimes they say yes but have sorted someone else by the time I invite them to book but  a lot of them tend to be in the area and able to get to me within 10-15mins or so.

I try to be honest with clients wherever possible, I've been on the receiving end of his kind of thing at a beauticians and it infuriated me.  You're not going to end up with any less clients by being straightforward with them.

In all likelihood double booking will lead to negative feedback somewhere.

Use a confirming procedure, and have others on standby ie ask permission to contact them if a cancellation comes up, or advise them to phone back at such a time to see if you are free.

Sorry, should have mentioned that I do use a confirmation system ... I ask all to confirm 1hr before and in this case they all did. x

Yes, a confirmation call or text means nothing. Sometimes I think they get a bigger kick out of confirming with no intention of showing.

I feel for you. I get some days when i get no shows and cancellations all in one day. Now i only take advance bookings the day before which has improved the system somewhat. I Get them to confirm the morning before 10 am as most of enquiries seem to come in after this time and get them to text me when they are on the way. I don't double book a client who is booked via AW as i don't want bad feedback but would double book callers and go for the first one that shows or if a good regular calls up i see him and cancel the newbie

Arrrrrr just had another 1 do it! Then he asked if he had to pay anything so I said, 2 options, either pay half or I report your number. He chose to pay half. Then I remembered the new law in Belfast so he must have thought I meant report to the police lol. He hasnt arrived yet.  :FF

Maybe accepting short notice bookings only will help.

The only way to earn some times is to double or treble book clients especially in Belfast. Belfast is time waster no show central. I learned the hard way after experiencing similar to you.

It is an earning method.

I just tell the guys it's a first come first served but once we have met once they can book. Asking them to text on way helps too.

Which area/region is this, Adele?   As someone else said, some areas are notorious.  Also if you're new, or touring, they could be pimps.

If you have had so many no shows one after the other do first come first serve, or make bookings half an hour apart, if one turns up it gives you time to cancel the other one without putting them out of their way, No shows are just plain annoying and I often wonder if its opposition getting their fellas to call to book, can their actually be that many saddos out there ?

What helps me is even though they book it isnt a booking until they show. It doesnt bother me too much now other than thinking to myself what a so and so. So next time he books I'll double book him. Well he did it to me sonny.

If clients turn up together be carful it could bounce back with a review not that it has with me but be cautious doing.

These baby's need to be tammed or they will run havoc all over us especially in Belfast.

I refused to take bookings in advance and explained why. I also made it clear to all callers that it was first come and first serve. I am so glad I did this after that wasted day as it turned out to work well. x

Thanks Ladies

First come first served works really well for me but regulars sometimes muck with it. I don't do that to them but I've had a few of them let me down. :-(

It was Belfast. Yes pimps were a huge problem in Ireland but I dont think it was them this time around.
