Title: Donation for Parties - US
Post by: Sly86 on 08 September 2014, 03:07:18 pm
First time poster here!

I'm having quite a conundrum. I agreed to do a party for a set donation through a 3rd party, they are insisting to pay afterward at a separate location to "avoid any legal issues to the client". I'm used to donations up front for my time, does this sound strange to anyone else or is this usually how a party goes? I'm new to the party idea, any insight would be great. Thanks!

I wouldn't do it without some sort of payment upfront after having been let down by someone I had done quite a few events for,  which ended up with me being stranded in Romford with no money and no credit on my phone.

So definately money upfront.

I would also want proof that the event was real and that it's not just some timewaster

No, no and no.

If they insist on paying at a separate location (and as you're in the US there are 'legal issues' no matter where they do, as they, you and the client are all breaking the law) then tell them that's fine, but they can pay you beforehand :).
