Good news,

I have found a potential place to move to after viewing 30 minutes ago. The landlord is waiting for my call after said I'll get back to him. To be honest I need time to think about everything. Because after deciding my life will be different in a good way.

For a start it is ?230 less rent pcm for a two bedroom apartment a converted house ideal for working. Second it is in a professional area. I say because the residents are more likely to mind there own business which is another pointer.

This looks like my break only good things can happen from this.

This sounds like a good opportunity.

I get my own private space for clients to park.

What I would like to ask is as it has one front door with no intercom. Is this workable?. Keeping it descrete?. I keep thinking about the standing procedure behind the door but would this work in full public view?.

Decisions decisions....

Any views will help.

Can you see the road or parking space from your window? if so get them to call you when they arrive so you can go out of your flat to let them in. Only thing is I wouldn't be keen on a converted house flat the front door opening and closing along with that the walls may be thin and also going up and downstairs (if you are upstairs) can he heard.

Do you mean there is no intercom to communicate by or that there isn't even a way of opening the door from your flat? That might be a pain in terms of covering yourself up to open the door or wearing civvy clothes to let them in then going to the hassle of changing. Even putting a long coat over stockings and heels will look suss if people see you doing it more than once. Who wears a long coat to open a door and in the summer... That would be my main concern.

If its a matter of not being able to speak to them then as above has said is it possible to see the clients from the window where they can call you and you can peek out and ensure they are alone/not banned/ actually there? If so it might work ok.

I live in a block of flats which has no controlled entry system so I ask people to tell me when they are on my street and I will then let them have the building number and direct them to my floor. This saves people turning up early and I'm ready for whoever is coming to my door. I've not had any problems while doing this. I have a good view of my street from my flat so this helps too.

I have worked in a similar set up.

Once a suitable answering the door outfit had been donned, they were to call when at a certain place on the street, at which point he would be at the door; reminding him to keep his voice low while the door was opened, ushering him inside.

It wasn't my favourite set up but do-able.

Have you found out what the situations are of the other people in the block? You can do this in a discreet way.

How far would you have to travel from your door to the front door?

How long is the initial tenancy for? What back up do you you have if rumbled by any of the people in the other properties suss you out!

What would happen if someone came to your door unannounced and could enter and come direct to your door and you were with another client. This could be done by people who have only visited you once but now know the situ.

I am not a lover of having to go fetch someone elsewhere, not just in this situation but also in keycarded hotel.

Considering everything I would prefer to pay the extra ?230 a month especially if you have intercom system and buzzer where you are.

A client of mine is a landlord and had a place, I thought bday and christmas had come at once until I realised it was a shared entrance, the worst part is the actual apartment did have own entrance, but because of other residents the gates had to be locked unless in use, if the gates werent locked it would have been perfect x
