Personally I wouldn’t do bank transfers as your name will appear on their bank statement. If you do make sure it’s a saving account so direct debits can’t be setup with your details.

Best option would be amazon vouchers or bitcoin.

Bitcoin - Use a reputable bitcoin exchange like Coinbase.
It’s really secure and anonymous - both you and the client need to download the Coinbase app for the payment to be instant. You won’t know their name, they won’t know yours. Plus there is no way a client can retract a bitcoin payment unlike they can with bank or Paypal payments so once that payment is there, it’s safe however it’s up to you what you want to do with the bitcoin - either can transfer it back into cash into your bank straight away or let it sit in there, it’s an investment so could go up or down.

Nooooo, not bitcoin, or any other cryptocurrency. Especially not as an "investment".

If you've got some spare time at the moment :) I highly recommend Attack of the 50ft Blockchain and the author's blog at davidgerard.co.uk/blockchain/ - you can start with 'Why you can’t cash out', but be aware that things have got a lot worse for people with bitcoin and the assorted shitcoins since it was written, so they're even more desperate to find some sucker willing to give them some actually useful money in exchange for their (in reality useless) 'coin'.

Coinbase lost its ability to do business with any UK bank you have heard of years ago. It may be less dodgy than most other exchanges, but that's like saying there are worse agency owners than Soulmates' one (https://saafe.info/main/warnings-wasters/soulmate-escorts-warning!/) - it's doubtless true, but it still doesn't mean you should touch them with a bargepole.

'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

Give them details to a saving account rather than a current account, because saving accounts you can’t setup direct debits to go out of them.

Will our real name appear on a clients bank statement with a savings account?

In my experience only if the client puts it in at their end as a reference, you could test this by sending yourself or a friend a transfer if you have another bank account.

I have a savings account but its online so only I can put money in, but if I knew for certain that COP didnt apply to savings accounts from major banks then I would open one lol. Hopefully someone here has tested it to see if it works or not...?

COP does apply to savings accounts however the banks are stating the only provide the sender withthe account name if the sender gets part of the name right.

When I sent to my friend who runs a business I put in something not part of the name on her account, I was then told it didn't match the name on the account and asked to check, return with the full name OR go through without the account name at my own risk.

I chose the 3rd option, the money got through and at no point did I see her name.

I hope my post is allowed on here but I wanted to let everyone know that I ran a test with a civvie mate of mine:

He sent a payment from his Natwest account to my bank account (he has never put money into my account before) and I told him to put HIS gov name on the bank transfer; he got a message saying the name doesnt match the account, but at the bottom there were two options - "Edit payee" or "No, keep it". He selected the latter and I got the money!

I then transferred money to his account using MY gov name (and I sent him money twice, from two separate current banks accounts) - I didnt even get the warning lmao and the transaction was successful

Im not sure if the banks have relaxed the rules due to cov19 but when I get back to work after the lockdown I will test it again with another civvie mate whose never transferred money into my account before but just thought Id post this on here for anyone who was paranoid like I was haha.

Thanks for this Gracious  :)

I am always paranoid about my name showing and never have the nerve to ask the Clients themselves.
I just go ahead and hope for the best.

I have tried it myself with family members both ways and had the same results as yourself.  8)

I've tested it from both a business account and a personal savings account. The only name that will appear on the statement is the one that you actually give. However you must worn the clients that they have to tick the liability box (ie, name does not match) and perhaps even tell them why this is to reassure them.

regarding the sort code. I did not know you could link it too a branch, however, accents are easily detectable so clients will have some idea of which part of the country we are from anyway.

Great idea about the Savings account. Personally I would never give out my regular account for this.

At this time, Amazon vouchers are very welcome, however, they will not pay my monthly debts

I use to have a guy who would pay me in John Lewis gift cards, I thought it was odd but was new and he had loads of positive feedback on AW. Money is money but those blasted vanilla cards are useless.

Bank transfer on a very few occasions, done right at the start of punt and checked if on my account. Thankfully that’s quick. Apart from that - nope cash is king.

I mainly only use bank transfers as a small deposit if its a new client who wants an outcall
