Hi,

Whilst I’m aware the forum is for independent workers mostly, what in your view would be a compelling argument to work with an agency rather than operate independently? Is there anything that an agency can provide that would make things easier for an already independent or a new girl in the industry?

    • I should be updating this instead...
There are more, but off the top of my head..

Theory: They handle the advertising.
Practice: They're not advertising you, they're advertising a bunch of people.

Theory: They handle the calls / bookings.
Practice: You will often end up in a room with someone you've never communicated with before and can't be entirely sure what they've been told.

Theory: They handle the screening.
Practice: Ha ha ha ha.

Theory: They can have an incall location.
Practice: You'll be charged more for this, but it can be useful.

Theory: When you're not doing a shift, you can switch off and ignore the work.
Practice: You may be expected to do more shifts than you want or for which the agency can find you work for (they don't lose anything by having you on call for work that never comes).

Theory: They are working for you.
Practice: Some of them are utter scum. Even the nicer ones tend to have favourites amongst their workers.

Theory: You may get a 'new on our books' bounce in work.
Practice: Some agencies have been known to send new - and they think inexperienced - workers to clients they know will push boundaries but generate them a lot of income.

Theory: There are people who will call an agency rather than search for an independent.
Practice: How many there are now, now that more or less everyone has a smartphone, I don't know.

'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

As ever, what Ian said.

Also just for completeness, you don't 'work for' an agency, you hire them to get you bookings. It's important to make the distinction because this means as well as contributing to a pimp's profits, you have no employee rights or security (holiday pay, sickness, maternity leave, proper notice) and as a self employed person you are still responsible for your own tax and NI payments and doing your tax return.

I'm sure you already know this, but others reading might not :)

These days it’s very straightforward to find great resources to be independent . I would never go with an agency .

I think it is hard to find a good one, but some escorts favour them because they find it hard for various reasons to manage the admin of independent work. Perhaps this is just because they don't like to do it, or have day jobs/studies/young children/ partners that they want to keep the job separate from.  I have had periods when I've used agencies because I'm sick of dealing with time waster phone calls, especially when I'm working on my studies and dealing for them just is a constant low level irritation/distraction. I get though that as aa consequence I don't get to be fussy about who I see, so I never stick with it for long. If the agency don't have a rule about representing escorts who also work independently, it could be to make some extra pounds if business is slow, but that's not an either/or answer. But in general, I can see there a more pros for indie work for many, if not most.
