does an account have to know our full name?
« on: 21 June 2019, 06:11:07 pm »
I'm considering getting one. I've never done this and wonder if he will know our full name, which the answer is probably yes but wonder if there's anyway that he doesn't know it. I rather keep my details private.

How about the type of self employment? as we will have to list ourselves under some subcategory of self-employment. Is there the escort category or can we lie about that? I wouldn't like it to be listed as escort occupation in government records, or for anyone, including accountant, to know what i do.

please help.

Yes he must know all your genuine personal details on tax returns or it will not be a valid legal document.
Lying to him is not a good idea.
HMRC can prosecute you for lying.
HMRC don't care what your work is they are not moral police, they just want you to pay some tax.
Therapist, entertainer, dancer seem popular with escorts.

I fill in a form myself and pay tax every year instantly...all good.
Best to use an accountant the first few times so he can show you how it's done and explain your rights.

Someone's got to pay the bin men, teachers  and national health services it's only fair.

i get it but this info is accessible to everyone? i mean if i wanna get a mortgage, house or whatever, and they hv to check my records by my NI, they will see the occupation i am listed under, or only self-employed? and how much should i pay for an accountant?

Your tax returns as a self employed person are private it's only public if you are a company.
But if you deal with banks or financial institutions they are entitled to see them.
If you deal with social security or benefits office they are entitled to see them too

Other girls who've been through this will know more detail...I believe mortgage needs to know all your geuine NI, occupation, self employed, or work for an employer etc My friend isn't a SW but they asked many questions including why she earned less in some years, she had to explain she was ill which was true.

Accountants charges vary a lot I think there's long threads on here...

You can say you are an escort on your tax return. It’s legal therefore HMRC wouldn’t give a toss.
No one from the general public can have access to your tax return and it would be very limited few that could access it.

When applying for a mortgage and any other loan, credit etc, they do not see your actual tax return. They see a document called a SA302 which just confirms your income, tax and NI paid

For example, you could put Escort on your tax return and tell your mortgage company that you’re a hairdresser. This would be lying but they would have no way of finding out through your tax return.

If you want to be more broad on your tax return you can state that you’re a ‘Therapist’

I’m just buying a house and I’ve had no problem  ;D

As for your accountant knowing your personal details, I wouldn’t worry as long as they are of a professional body they are obliged to keep your information private.

All accountants charge differently and it all depends on what you need them to do.
I paid £300 for an accountant to submit my tax return and never again. I do it myself online for free. Just keep a simple log of income and expenses.
Self assessment only want to know those two figures, they calculate the rest for you

they are pro, he knows everything about me. My escort job, others, my professional profile with my real name etc...
you do not need to hide nothing! instead he can help you out!
cost depend! you should ask to them, be aware that some are bloody expensive in Central london.
you must to talk with him/her and ask everything you need! do not need to hide nothing! instead you should be clear and everything transparent!

My accountant is the only person I've completely 'come out' to. They need to know all your full legal details. They can be very useful in terms of e.g. providing proof of earnings.

Accountants have to know your personal details, if they didn't I wouldn't recommend hiring them.

Mine was a friend of someone close, coming out was the only issue and nothing has ever been passed on. All very professional which is how it should be.

Yes, me too. Mine lists my job as an entertainer which is brilliantly vague!  :D

I state Escort on my return which I used to submit myself, when I started with an accountant it just carried on.

No backlash from putting that on my form as of yet.

How have you got around it all this time? Did you not say before you been in the industry on and off for several years.

You do not have to put down sex worker, masseuse could be fine but an accountant would need to know what HMRC would need to know. Have you got long patches of no work registered if you have be prepared if you ever get asked.

Apart from that try not to over complicate things just register and keep copies of expenses for the accountant and if you claim miles for driving.

What i would suggest use an accountant out of your area so they will not know anyone you know i prefer to use one not anywhere in my area just my preference and discretion even though they should remain confidential with your info.

i dont drive. I don't know anyone here as i just moved to a new city, so i dont mind using a local accountant. I know that now it's gonna be slightly more difficult to rent a place and im gonna have to explain what i've been doing lately and i will say the truth, that i've been overseas for a long time and just came back. If they are not satisfied then i will just rent a room in a shared flat and do touring only. It's good to know that we can have an accountant legally as i thought that we had to lie to our accountant about what we do but it seems that most of you tell him what we do, so its easier as no need to make up stories, but i wouldn't wanna be listed as escort at the govt records, maybe masseuse, dancer or something else but escort. My only concern is if i ever stop using this accountant if he takes revenge for abandoning him and looks me up on facebook and contacts my friends telling them what i do. I would never want anybody in my private life to know what i do. Another thing is, as I'm about to start an online seller business here, completely unrelated to escort, so do i have to be listed under two things then or what??

Yes you would have to submit 2 separate self assessments forms.

No professional accountant is going to be interested in causing trouble for you. I'm with a major firm in central London. And yes, I have two sets of accounts, but they're submitted in parallel so I just have one tax payment.

Isn’t that too expensive? I read online that it’s better to deal with an individual accountant as compared to a big firm bc firms have many costs such as office, employees etc... whereas with an accountant who works from home you are paying him directly so there’s no middle man.
