Title: Do you respond to texts?
Post by: sensualmilf on 16 July 2015, 08:06:22 am
I state on my profile that I don't respond to texts but still get them (no surprise there!)
But I was wondering if they are all timewasters, e.g. 'Are you in a hotel?' (My most recent one)
I would be interested in your experiences.

I encourage texts so, yes, I do. Stupid texts that just ask nosy questions without even a "hello" are ignored because they come across as rude.

If someone sends a polite text - along the lines of "Hello, I was wondering if you were available for an incall this afternoon?" I absolutely answer them. In your situation, you can either ignore because they haven't read your profile or you can give them a break and say, "Hello - please call me if you'd like to discuss a booking."

ALL profiles on AW say that texts will be ignored as AW puts that on there. Unless you make a very clear point near the top of your profile that you will only book via phone, many punters will text anyway.

I'm fine with texts too - a polite text is no different than a polite email, and a rude and stupid one from somebody who hasn't read my ad is no different to a phone call from the same. Texts means I can get on with my day as I don't have to be sitting indoors in the quiet to answer them and I encourage everybody who's been before to text rather than call.

I ask all punters I haven't met previously to call and book, but that's really just to check it's an adult male who's at the other end. They all have to call when they get to my landmark, but I certainly don't mind texts before that :).

Yes I answer texts too as long as they're polite and to the point.

I do ask them to call just too confirm though.

Polite texters usually turn out to be fine. Ie Hello. My name is Peter. Would you be available at 6pm? is usually fine. Texts like Where r u based or What do u offer are annoying.

I agree...Polite texters with real English, not txt tlk are fine.
But they must ring for details or booking.
I'm not keen on text but not every cient has a private office to call from.

Typical me, I very rarely responded to texts.  I always wanted to hear if there was the hint of an accent for for me that meant the client was a no  no.

I also hated texting with a passion and wasn't taking the chance of them starting a game of text ping pong.  When I did text back it was usually to tell them I was free to speak and to call.

If they did then all fine and well, if not, I lost nothing I never had.

I get a fair few bookings by text.
I always answer if some one politely introduces themselves, asks for for an hour at x time.
"R u free?" Gets ignored though.
It would cut out quite a lot of bookings if I didn't respond, some guys think you might be busy and unable to answer the phone etc, either that or more discreet for them x

I answer specific texts, but messages asking me 'where are you' (I'm outcall only), or 'are you available?' will get my standard reply advising to let me know their requirements, to phone, or look at website.

I also have regular clients I will make arrangements with by text, they put the info I need into the message, if anyone starts chatting on, asking one thing then another then they will have to phone. If I'm driving on the way to a booking, or anything else then I don't answer texts, I might pull over to ask them to phone, some will, some carry on texting and I can't do anything about that. There's enough clear info on my profile, so it's not as if I'm leaving them blind.

I have had a booking through answering a text, but he was a pest & sent 30 in the run up to the appointment.
{Have spoken about this in my needy clients thread so wont bore by repeating myself again}
Not always easy for them to call & discuss if in a bad signal area {that guys excuse} or at work to save face etc.

Anything blunt/chavy/rude I'll ignore. On the whole I've found that they are time wasters/fantasists even when polite. it's just sods law with texts.

I find it interesting how quick fire someone can be when in a supposedly area of poor signal.

I usually ask if there is a landline nearby I can call them on. ;D

I would also like to add that if I could I would happily use text to arrange most of my bookings, but there are times when I cannot engage in a half hour to an hour of exchanging messages back and forth.

My profile says to not text and that any texts from new numbers will just receive a response of me asking them to call. Which is what I do. It's a bit annoying as it's stated quite clearly on my profile, but hey ho it happens. Then when they call I ask them to make sure they've read my profile in full before I confirm a booking.

I'll accept and respond to texts from regulars (my number isn't on my profile), and I have AW set up so I can read messages via email to my phone, so they can't tell I've read them if it's just a 'r u free 2 sit on my face in 10 mins'

I have a phobia of speaking on the phone to people I don't know (including calls to bank, customer service etc etc), so even when they do call me, I say I am only able to text. If I have a good day, I will answer phonecalls, but not too many. I a polite text to a phonecall any day. Obviously I don't reply to txt spk and were r u baseed type of text

Yes, I get a lot of my bookings through texts.. You can tell as much from a text about a person as you can from a 5 minute phone-call..
And like Green Carnation, I'm not too keen on phoning!!!
I wouldn't say I've got a phobia, but I do hate it, in normal life, and also when I'm working..
So I actually prefer texts  ;)

As others do, I'll always respond to a polite, sensible initial enquiry via text, but ask them to call if they want to book (and put my website URL in the reply too, unless they say they've already looked at my site).

I answer them when my maid is away. Don't have a problem with them.

I respond to clear concise non-timewastery texts and often accept bookings through text alone is they sound like normal human beings from their writing style. I very rarely get blowouts or timewasters through texts which is why I have no problem with them.

I am just wondering what do you do if the punter says they are deaf and cannot phone?

I know what you mean. Worked in a call centre once & it made me ill with anxiety. I was funny with phone calls for years afterwards. I'm OK now though but if I'm having an off day I'll avoid the phone.

I am just wondering what do you do if the punter says they are deaf and cannot phone?

I have a few deaf punters including regulars, and all can manage a quick phone call. Most people with hearing loss are like me, where it's either gradual in both ears or one side doesn't work at all but the other is manageable depending on the surroundings, and all have emailed and explained. Many use hearing aids, although I don't so can only answer the phone on my left side.

The 'I'm deaf so can't call' texts over the years have all been timewaster types with no further enquiry about when they want a booking or how long for. Relatively few people are so completely and profoundly deaf that they can't use the phone at all, although of course there will be some. I can't see anybody I can't direct to my door over the phone, so I would explain that and apologise for not being able to see them.

I suppose I could send a friend out to get them if there were really exceptional circumstances, but I can't imagine what those would be. I certainly wouldn't go myself.

Yes, this is what I suspected, I do currently have an enquirer who is texting asking questions, who says he cannot phone because he is deaf (made similar enquiry few weeks ago). I have explained that he can email with all his questions if he wishes, and I'll answer in full............but nothing yet!

I know that for some reason I am way more assertive and confident by text or email ,so if i dont like the sound of someone I can decline to see them with ease, whereas I would really struggle to say no on the phone!! For this reason I dont actually take any calls, unless prearranged with good reason

Have had an increase lately in testers. I've found the ones who text something like this "Hi, would you be available for a one hour appointment at 6pm? John" to be ok and actually turn up. The ones who text "R u 3" are texted back and told to call.

I've had another who started off asking a few questions, said he couldn't phone because it was inconvenient and indiscrete, will phone soon, more questions, asks if I'll see his black friend, just one more question, oh I'm hard of hearing won't be phoning can we carry on texting, will I see his friend and can he watch. ::)

As long as they are well written, yes - I use the same screening process I would for emails or calls. I usually ask for a phone call to confirm, though, as I like to know they can string a sentence together. I've had several guys whom sounded like native English speakers calling me and seeming as though moving their mouth to speak was too much effort. Denied!
I did once get a text asking if I see a lot of clients every day, and if we'd be alone at my incall flat - in my head, this translated to 'do you have a lot of cash I can steal' so blocked him!!

It says on my profile I'm happy to respond to polite texts. Texts such as "You working?" or "You feeling horny?" are ignored. I have a lot of guys tell me its hard for them to make a call sometimes (if maybe they are at work) but easier to text.I have to speak to them before a booking though to ensure they pass my screening process.
