Possible scam agency in Edinburgh? Need Advice
« on: 08 February 2015, 06:20:09 pm »
Hi there,

not sure if this is the right place to post this but thought i'd try anyway. So me and my friend are new to this industry and have been trying to find an agency in our area as we dont feel confident enough to start out indie with no proper knowledge etc.

So in January my friend is approached by a lady (called Laura) who then reffered her to a man called Gary. She had initial contact with Gary (we have no phone number or even last name for this guy except an email address) so he seems polite and nice enough to answer questions and concerns but we think he may be a possible scammer as 1) he cancelled the interview he arranged 2)as mentioned we have no other details about him other than an email he contacted us by 3)At around the end of january this guy just disappeared. No contact etc.

The thing that worries us is we read on this forum about a notorious sex worker abuser called Gary Allan who relocates throughout the UK to flee police. When we googled part of his email it linked to a business webpage that is based in the Borders (between scotland and england) with no real credit to back it up. We could just be paranoid but as I say, we have no name of the agency, or details of this guy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I've moved this here as the Warnings section isn't for general discussion, and members can help with advice here :).

When you say your friend was 'approached', approached how?

Not that it matters if they've disappeared, but any agency that really wants you to employ them will be falling over themselves to try and impress you with their great reviews, impeccable screening and security procedures, fair commission rates, attractive website and massive advertising budget and so forth. Or at least they should be, since that's what you're paying them for.

I'd forget all about this, to be honest. You don't need a pimp, but if you're determined to find one then there's an article which will help on the main SAAFE site - read the whole thing a couple of times and then decide if you still want to pay one.

You can bring any specific questions back here, too. Welcome to SAAFE :).

Hey thanks! I wasn't sure when posting as its my first time.

Approached as in she went for an interview and was told the interviewer knew a guy who had an agency and gave said guy our email address. It seemed dodgy so i just wanted advice as it seemed weird they didnt have a web page etc. Red flags went up as he didnt even give us the agency's name. Just said no web page etc as it was an extremely private high end "referral" system where clients refer their friends etc from "blue chip" companies etc. Of course we weren't born yesterday and hence googled his email address and discussed it. x

Went for an interview where, and for what?

The bullshit 'we're so exclusive we don't have a website as our punters are all so mega-conglomerate they couldn't possibly risk Using The Internet to find prostitutes' line is even older than me, but well done for spotting it.

What usually happens next is that one of their 'representatives' (ie. this man or whichever of his friends' turn it is) will 'interview' you (ie. expect you to have sex, commonly unprotected, with them for free) to determine whether you get the non-existant 'job', whereupon they vanish and you never hear from them again ::).

It was for a bartending job found on Gumtree and she said this Gary guy had an agency would you be interested etc. We were already looking for agencies at the time so accepted. You're totally right though. We were meant to meet at a known budget hotel restaurant /bar for a chat (again red flag) and then wanted to do a "profile" and a photo shoot (I'd never do that because of ownership and not dumb).

Had to be quite knowledgeable about the industry as he gave lots of accurate info about rates and in call/out call etc and how things work.

Probably glad snow cancelled his "slot" with us haha!

I was applying online and I might have come across said Garry and Laura. He asked me to meet him in a public place and asked me lots of questions.. He then said I was not the type..
He wore those black thick rimmed glasses, paranoid if he was filming me the whole time..

With an agency is simple - they have a website and you sent them your photos, not that they make they own at first meeting. They call you back, you meet them in public place, they create your profile and the work starts. I wouldn't go to an interview if they didn't see my pictures at first.

Maybe you should start as an incall? There is more work with it...
He came in the morning and woke me up with killer instinct. Wish I could stop this now.
