Lydiaa, this isn't a reason to be wary of taking a booking. Probably fewer than half of mine come from AW and fewer than one in a hundred actually book through the online system there.

I can't arrange by text because I need to be able to talk punters to my door, but I've had deaf clients who can manage a brief phone call (as can I - I'm deaf in one ear). If somebody could only communicate by text I couldn't see them at my flat, but if I was in a hotel then assuming they'd passed my screening I'd just bring them up to my floor and then go and get them.

I have a blind regular who I had to go outside and grab the first time he visited and now he comes straight to the door every time, although I do look out for him in case he misses it. He never has :).

Wow, bless him!
How did he come across your add with being blind?

Might be worth knowing many blind people are not totally blind, often have some vision - also I'm certain software exists to read web content out loud?

I think this guy's doing the rounds. If it's same guy he has contacted me twice and my friend too. Wonder if he's actually booked anyone yet. He is either very nervous and hesitant or a time waster.

Yes, he has software which does this and also some sight in one eye - I'm guessing this as he wears a watch with big numbers. Without being too specific, the bloke worked in a highly regarded profession on placements all over the world before he retired, so navigating to my flat door probably doesn't pose that much of a challenge :).

He doesn't drive, mind ;).

I am very relieved that he doesn't drive my children got very concerned when they saw a van for window coverings saying blind man driving on it once.

I have a regular who describes himself as blind but has partial sight in one eye and manages amazingly well and his hearing is amazing. It sometimes feels like he hears things before the sound is even there

Well being blind or deaf isn't like flicking a on/off switch - like Mirror said, not many people have absolutely no vision at all (even if it's just telling light from dark) and not that people are so completely and profoundly deaf that they can't manage the phone at all even with hearing aids or in their 'better' ear (like I do, although I can only answer indoors in a quiet room and can't hear well enough to take calls outside or in a public place. Oh, and my eyesight is shit too :D).

The 'I'm deaf and can't call, can I book by text?' punters have been around as long as text messaging has and the majority are address collectors who disappear as soon as they get it. There will be some who are genuine and whilst I can't accommodate them at my flat because of the difficulty directing them, I have no problem at all seeing somebody who can't hear me (espclecially when I mostly can't hear them either). I'd go with what somebody else said and think of a 'Stop' signal but otherwise I'd just proceed as usual :).
